Hi All,
I've got a bike with a dead battery, no longer holding charge and it was a YTX5L-BS which is £42 at Halfords. This is a 12V battery, 80A and 4.2Ah.

I've heard there are other batteries (Mainly the PTX5L-BS) is compatible and would work in my bike. This battery is only £18 online but it's 12V, 80A and 5Ah.

Would this work or would it potentially cause damage?

Thanks

Electrically, that should be fine. Your only consideration is if the dimensions are correct for it to physically fit in the battery box and the terminals reach.

If you're buying online, make sure it's being sent pre-filled bacause no one is allowed to supply you with acid packs any more.

It will be OK. Look at:

https://www.tayna.co.uk/motorcycle-batteries/types/ytx5l-bs/

"Star buy" has two-year guarantee. Make sure the terminals of whatever you buy are the correct type and in the correct positions. Take postage cost into consideration.

Most motorbike batteries are sealed, which is good. you can't put in or (normally) take out electrolyte.

Thanks guys,

I'll measure up the old battery and compare it to the ones on that list. £42 seems a bit expensive for a battery. Bikes been sitting around a bit after an engine malfunction which has been fixed now.

Worth noting the unit for sale at Halford's is a Yuasa and they make solid batteries.

Yes. Same from Tayna is £39.94 delivered (but it's only got a 1-year guarantee).
