Dear Danny

Thanks for your email, apologies for the delay in replying.

Our policy on motorbikes is that Smaller, low powered motorcycles are
generally preferable to cars (especially those with a single occupant)
as
they take up less road space and are more economic consumers of fuel.
However, the Green Party does not wish to see increased use of
motorcycles
because they emit pollution and noise and can endanger road users. The
aim
is to encourage much less use of high powered machines and for low
powered
machines to offer an alternative for those who currently use these or
cars
and could not transfer to more sustainable modes.
The Green Party would take measures to encourage a transfer of motor
cycle
manufacture and use from larger, powerful machines to less powerful
ones
including scooters and mopeds. These would include setting and
enforcing
strict noise limits and, for higher powered machines, speed limiters.
For the safety of other users, the Green Party does not feel it
appropriate
for motorcyclists to be able to use any priority measures put in for
pedestrians and cyclists, including those shared with public transport.

Best wishes

Greg Patton

Amazing, they lost my vote in just one e-mail. Laughing

Hi

Amazing the number of people who do not realise how much of a nasty impact the green party politics would have on their lives.

Also note the phrase "could not transfer to more sustainable modes". So which modes would these be? Certainly not buses or trains, so effectively they mean walking or cycling.

All the best

Keith

Thanks for posting that Danny... I had always assumed (oh, what a dangerous thing to do!) that the Green Party would have been in much higher favour of motorcycles. Obviously not. What a pity that they, too, just lost my vote.

I think the Green Party would prefer everybody to either walk to work or peddle it ? Personally, I think they live on cloud cuckoo land !

I'd respect them less if they said current Motorcycles are good.
The are the "Green Party" after all.

All vehicles that run on oil based fuel are going to be bad in their books.

Hopefully those "Fuel cell" Powered vehicles will come on leaps and bounds in the next few years...

Thumbs Down such a negative outlook.
Would not get my vote, I'd even feel a 'protest' vote would be wasted.

No wonder people get disillusioned with politics Sad

I need to send a letter to the Lib Dems about their policy on motorcycle usage. I think Lembit Opik at least is quite keen, maybe even a biker, he supported the Kill Spills petition?

The Lib Dems are the only choice imo. Thumbs Up Common sense policy on everything that I've seen. Cut middle management out of the NHS, introduce a local income tax rather than council tax, increase pensions, cut tuition fees etc..

Just don't expect to be able to carry on riding your bike happily. They are not as extreme as the Green party but far worse than Labour.

Funnily enough the Tories would seem to have a 'pro-bike' attitude if Michael Howards interview in MCN this week is anything to go by. Probably BS admittedly.

Yep. All we can really go on is how bad they have been in the past.

Tory Plan B went to the Ally Pally show in 1997 before he won the election, claiming all sorts about putting bikes at the heart of transport policy.

All the best

Well, that one doesn't really mention motorcycles at all.

Quote:

Given the poor emissions of almost all bikes on sale, it would not surprise me if we were the ones subsidising the tax on hybrid cars.

Lib dems are very hot on speeding, road charging and every other scam going to get money from road users.

Our policy on motorbikes is that Smaller, low powered motorcycles are boring, and as such are the way forward.

The Green Party would take measures to encourage mindless boring motor cycle manufacture and use from larger, powerful machines to less powerful

we love scooters and mopeds.

we would include setting and enforcing
strict noise limits because nobody likes the sound of a r1 racing down the road and, for higher powered machines, speed limiters.
so d1icks that spent £50k on a car aren't embarrased by a £2k bike from the 80's, the Green Party does not feel it
appropriate

I was a green party pro to but recently (well since getting in to bikes) I have changed my view.

On another note, I have no idea who to vote for, none of the policies seem very clear and can you trust them anyway?

Labour - Been shit so far.
Conservative - Can you really see Michael Howard as PM?
Lib Dems - ?? Don't know much about there policies.
Anyone else - A wasted vote.

Because we're destroying the environment in which we live and upon which we depend to survive. It can't continue forever without disastrous consequences.

What we can do to change is more difficult, and what the UK itself can do itself is quite feeble compared to the power of the people really responsible for most of the environmental damage.

The main problem imo with the Green party is that their view is too extreme compared with where we are just now. Most people just won't vote for that kind of extreme policy change, and most people simply appear not to care about the environment so won't vote for the Green party anyway.

It does appear as though the government is finally acknowledging that they need to turn to nuclear power, as they are encouraging bidding to build new stations. (The Independent on Sunday, two weeks ago.)
