Hi,

I'm new to all this so sorry if this is a bit of a silly question.
I got my bike on finance and I read there are "modification restrictions", basically they don't allow any at all but I want to change the color of the red fairings to something else. I'll be using vinyl wrap and not paint.
So my question is: If I change the color and inform the DVLA (Which I know I have to) will they contact my finance company about this???

The DVLA won't contact anyone about it.

Your cats might tell the finance company though. Shocked

If it's vinyl wrap, you don't need to tell the DVLA.

Only tell them if you paint it a different colour.

Hmmmm.

Looked on Google for stuff about that and plenty of companies who sell car wrapping quote this from the DVLA:

"The register maintained by the driver and vehicle licensing agency (DVLA) essentially exists to assist in revenue collection, road safety and law enforcement. The Police and other enforcement agencies rely on the DVLA record for all vehicles-related investigations. It is therefore paramount that the information stored on the vehicle register is accurate and up to date.

DVLA records details given by vehicle manufacturers at first registration. Any changes to the vehicles details must be notified to DVLA by law.

By covering the entire vehicle in a coloured adhesive/vinyl wrap, it is DVLA’s view that the colour change should be recorded. To notify a change of colour you should complete section 7 of the registration certificate V5C and return it to DVLA Swansea SA99 1BA. You should receive a replacement certificate within two to four weeks.

We would like to advice any owner of a vehicle that has had a full colour change wrap that they should inform the DVLA by completing the correct paperwork. Partial wraps and digital printed wraps do not appear to be affected.

For any further information can by obtained from the DVLA on 0843 515 8104."

I can't find anything useful about it on a .gov.uk website. Rolling Eyes

Well, they've changed their tune since I last wrapped a bike.

That said, last time I changed a vehicles colour, they sent the v5 back unaltered no fewer than 4 times. I gave up in the end.

Who betide the man/woman who trusts that their cat won't drop them in the shit.

If it's on finance you do not own the vehicle.
It belongs to the finance company.
You are the registered keeper.
Read your finance agreement. There are always restrictions.
Say you need to get rid of the vehicle before the finance is cleared?
They will slap you with a dealer rate to prepare the vehicle back to its sale condition.
If the agreement permits a change is may need a note to the finance company.

And DVLA. 👍

If he takes the wrap off, he'll have to tell them that change of colour, too.

Well that's a wrap then.

Kind of poetic in a way.

I know the finance owns it, I read the agreement and if I want to make any modifications I need their written permission. But it's only wrap so I call bs.

I have no intentions of getting rid of the bike before clearing the finance but I don't fancy waiting 2 years to change the color Rolling Eyes

What bit of the agreement did you not understand?

I'm not telling not to change or not do wot u want.

I'm only advising that there are restrictions.

I never said, 'you want to sell it'?

I said, 'if you have to sell it.' (Do you see what I did there?)
Anyone's circumstances can change.

Only a wrap? So it will wash off? 🤣
It will require specialist service to restore to OEM.

Finance companies won't have a shop and a kindly service dept to do that. They will want their property and a pound of flesh.

But do as you wish. 👍

Wow no need to be an ass I'm not a dumb lil blonde
Obviously I know there are restrictions and all that, that's why I asked question on here which initially was "Will DVLA tell my finance about the color change"
I read the agreement and understood it that's why I'm looking at ways to get around that specific restriction.
I never said anything about actually selling the bike so idk what you're on about either.
If I do have to ever sell it then I'll restore the original color on my own cost instead of getting the finance company and their people deal with it. Problem solved.
Even if you know your stuff you don't need to be an ass about it Rolling Eyes

Haw you... calm the fuck down.

I never said anything inflammatory.
I don't care if you're blonde, auburn or a 16-1/2 stone brunette (Even though do they say gentlemen prefer blondes.).

I was just sayin'.

😥
Ass.... Do you mean a donkey? 🤔🐎

Options..

1- JFDI and stop posting inane questions, or
2 - Ask your finance company first, or
3 - Don't bother changing anything and just use the bike.

Option 3 is what you'll do if you have an ounce of sense. No cost, no bother, and it'll probably look better than some tacky wrap anyway.
