My bike uses the Suzuki DRZ 400 engine. Where in the UK do I buy genuine Suzuki parts for that engine? Do Suzuki have a spares weblink or do I buy through certain named dealers?
Haynes don't have all of the bits I will/could need.

The engine will be overhauled over the winter (higher miles and it's telling me it's unhappy!) and dependent on what's needed, prices and hassle I'll either rebuild or drop a used engine into it.
Probable parts include a starter sprag clutch. I can buy from the bay of evil but they're likely Chinesium and sh*t.

Cheers Thumbs Up

When I had my VZ800 I used to use https://www.bike-parts-suz.com/ for all my spares.

I use either robinsons or CMSNL https://www.cmsnl.com/suzuki_model13052/

CMSNL is a great resource for finding part numbers

More great links. Definitely enough to find the engine internals I'll likely need.

Have the MOT booked for Monday and once that fiasco is over I might as well start a thread where you all watch as I cry and see my money flying out the window with every engine case I open!

CMSNL is great for looking up parts numbers, which I then buy through https://www.motorcyclespareparts.eu/ with each part number and often pay considerably less than I would have through CMSNL themselves...

Ooo now that's handy because if the sprag clutch is gone then it's over 200 notes for one. Any percentage saved on that would be nice.

I'd personally weigh up whether or not it's cheaper to source a replacement bike.

Rebuilds aren't cheap on 4 stroke engines. And the replacement engines will probably be about ready to give up the ghost.

You're probably looking at £1,300-£2,000 to rebuild the engine properly with every new seal, crank rebuild etc.

I rebuilt a Yamaha R1 engine for a lot less than £1000 so I am not sure why it would cost up to £2000 for a DRZ400 engine.... Thinking Brick Wall

Try this UK site https://www.fowlersparts.co.uk/browser/manufacturer/suzuki

My experience is with MX 4 strokes. Not sure if the road bikes are similar, maybe the engine builder was putting £ on top? IIRC it was £1200-£1400 to rebuild a KTM 250 SXF.

This ^^
Having looked around places to source parts from it appears that a mix of sources would be a better (cheaper) option. We live in a strange world..

OK so I've done some digging into both sides of the engine on this and the sprag clutch is like new. I suspect it was replaced at some point before my grubby hands went there.
I dug into both side casings and all was well. The oil system is actually missing 3 washers on the oil return line. They're here and ready to put in.
The engine is 'well used' but still in fair condition. Should be good for another year.

The intermittent noise I was hearing when riding? It's so embarrassing!!
The noise was the bash plate under the engine vibrating at certain revs and only on certain surfaces/conditions. Yup - the b*stard was resonating.
It's held to the frame with 4 bolts and one had corroded enough for the thread to strip and lose it's clamping force..
