Actually, there was one thing I did enjoy. Proper laughed out loud. The book you recommended - 500 Mile Walkes by Mark Wallington. Utterly brilliant. Also read Boogie up the River and have just bought several more of his books. Love his humour. |
Glad you enjoyed it. Long time since I read that one, but it's what got me off my arse during a long period of unemployment many years ago. Long distance walks have been another highlight of my life. Things like this have kept my (sore!) feet on the ground, and put a little perspective into life for me in this confused, materialistic, grabbing world we live in. It's good to get right back to basics once in a while. ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017

Bit of a ride for ridings sake with Mrs grr on pillion. Did about 70 miles around the Somerset area just following my
nose, then headed out to "The Bull" in Hinton. a pub we know well and have taken the dog to before. Sunday lunch
and a very cold pint for me and fish and chips plus a pint of cider for the wife. Then a quick 20mins ride straight home
and I've just awoken from a couple of hours kip on the sofa and been outside to put the (now cool) bike away.
Off to walk the dog again when it gets cooler so may stop for another pint in town.

Left at 7am for a MaccyD Sossidganegg McMuthafukka, bimbled to a friend's place just outside Boston, Lincs, then a group of 10 of us headed to the Fenman Classic Bike Show in Wimbotsham, near Downham Market. Good show, bloody hot, Bratwurst was had, think I drank my weight in Lucozade. Made the mistake of forgetting hat and sun cream, so will pay for that later. About 180 mile round trip, may stop vibrating soon. ____________________ Chances are quite high you are not in my Monkeysphere, and I don't care about you. Don't take it personally.

Well, back off holiday, time for a ride out on my little HPS. To be honest, I'm getting more impressed by this bike as time goes on. An approximately 230 mile round trip, from Wolves over to Waddington, outside Lincoln, and back via Sherwood Forest, oh, and I hit the 1000 mile mark on it as well. Oh, and it travelled perfectly happily at around 65-70 mph most of the way, who's have thought I'd be on a little chinese 125 overtaking on the A38/A50 & A46 more often than being overtaken !! For most part I stayed dry, but, got a good old dousing in Lincoln, as you might be able see in the photos with the cathedral ! A rough version of the route is attached, doesn't account for my detours within Lincoln and the perimeter run around RAF Waddington

Not strictly today, but yesterday I returned from a 9 day, 2,200 mile trip to the Alps (Swiss/Italian border).
Rough itinerary was Home>Eurotunnel>Troyes>Swiss Alps>Italian Alps>French Alps>Jura Mountains>Ardennes>Eurotunnel>Home
We had 35deg heat schlepping across France on the way out, but then as we hit the lower alpine roads, the weather wasn't playing ball at all.
Troyes old town.

View from "Panaramastrasse"

Fortunately, it then improved consdierably for our 3 day stay in the Alpine resorts and we had an awesome time exploring as many high alpine passes as possible. Including Susten, Furka, St Bernard, Cormet de Roseland and many more.
Bikes and mountains!

During our stop in France on the way home we heard that most of those passes had been closed by snow just a couple days behind us, so we were lucky!
The trip back across france was mainly characterised by pouring rain, and the final interesting photo of the trip was this one taken on a lunch stop in Verdun, with the WWI officers mess (now a hotel) in the background.

All in all I had a great time, and with no dramas regarding the bike or navigation. ____________________ Bikers make great organ donors - add your name to the register

Standard tour: down to Box Hill and then on to Newlands Corner. How could you not go out on such a day? ____________________ Husqvarna Vitpilen 401, Yamaha XSR700, Honda Rebel, Yamaha DT175, Suzuki SV650 (loan) Fazer 600, Keeway Superlight 125, 50cc turd scooter |

No pics! I know... not very good for a picture thread, but hey-ho.
The outing wasn’t really that exciting.
I’ve been from Ipswich to Southwold on the Suffolk coast and back.
Stayed off the A12 as much as I could.
A nice little ride out to investigate Southwold pier as a future venue for a fishing trip.
It’s like God’s waiting room on a sunny day .
The fish & chip were not brilliant, but okay, nearly, almost, but expensive .
It was nice to get out on the bike in the dry with relatively clear roads ____________________ I am the sum total of my own existence, what went before makes me who I am now! |
