Hey all,
I was riding to work the other day and the front sprocket felt like it was catching. On the way home any sign of catching had gone but I took the cover off to have an inspection as to what might have been going on.
The Sprocket looks like this;

My first though that the chain might be slack but it was not as slack but it seemed to be ok. I then thought it might be wheel alignment. I have measured between the swing arm pivot and the axle and this seems to be good too. I was going to set up a string test but I dont have a center or paddock stand currently.
Looking at the chain positioning though and pushing the bike round the garden it always seems to sit right on the front face of the sprocket. Is this normal?
Chain looks to be OK I think, it comes away from the rear sprocket about 2mm when pulled and you cant see light through it. no tight spots that I can find
Any ideas?
I know its looking a bit dry so I will lube it up.
Cheers! ____________________ "no I didn't steal it that's just the way I ride" |

The teeth are starting to hook which means the chain is on it's way out too. Time for new chain and sprockets, and of course chain lube.
There's so little build-up of mess around that front sprocket that shows you've been badly neglecting the chain through lack of lube.
Chain and sprocket set: £150
6 months worth of Rock Oil chain lube £15
You don't even want to think about the cost of replacing the engine cases if that chain breaks at a seized pin through extended neglect. ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'

Don't forget to take a photo of the other side of the sprocket when you take it off so we can all have a good laugh learn from this ____________________ Royal Enfield Continental GT 535, Husqvarna Vitpilen 401, Yamaha XSR700, Honda Rebel, Yamaha DT175, Suzuki SV650 (loan) Fazer 600, Keeway Superlight 125, 50cc turd scooter |
