Just had spinal surgery so will have to be more sly than that.

Used to be 5'10, now down to her height and she knows I can't out run her.

What are the Real Risks of Biking?

My Mum/Dad/Girlfriend/Boyfriend/Husband/Wife HATE the thought of me riding a bike! What Should I do?

I Only want a 'little' bike, It's not THAT dangerous, is it? Its NOT like I'm jumping straight on a loonie-big-bike!

The wife doesn't like the idea, but I have told her how much money it will save...

You do know that 50% (it used to be 80%, but then they started making Series 1 Disco's in Solihul pre-wormed steel....) but 50% of all Land-Rovers ever made are still on the road..... the rest never made it off the drive, and their owner is trying to down-load a copy of the 'Rave' manuals and/or find some-one to translate them from Brumigian to an intelligible language.... Wink

Maybe saying 'Yes' was a ruse... women are devious like that... and she knew all along that if she encouraged you to travel to the registry by Lode-Lane's finest.... you PROBABLY wouldn't get to the church on time! Laughing

Akchully, and I CBA to hunt it out, but I have a photo of Unc, leaving his wedding, on a 1920's BSA 'Side-Car' taxi... I think it normally lives at the Nat-MC museum, cos he's a chariot freak..... and normally rides a, sod it, I cant pronounce it let alone spell it! He normally rides a russian heap of gulag chit chair; the WWII German infantry carrier BMW R32, cloned by the ruskies after they annexed the east. They have a habit of eating their own pistons, but that's yet another story.... but after a 9 year engagement, and his father in law, taking him to one side and telling him, "I know your broke, BUT, I took out an endowment policy to pay for the daughter's wedding when she was a baby........ it's worth more than my chuffin PENSION now.... SO, SON, you gonna make an honest woman of her or WHAT?" my now auntie, had or was considerately advised to make Unc save the silly vehicles until AFTER the forms were signed!... they took the gulag heap of on a tour of the Pyraneese after... and only crashed once, apparently..... Laughing

This +1.

Just ride it. Either she like you enough to deal with it, or she doesn't.

That is likely to be a very expensive new ride.

So starting out your relationship with respect and equinamity then? Nice to see ones partner taking a keen interest in your hobbies and interests.

An old trueism: Men marry women thinking they won't change, but they do. Women marry men thinking they'll change, but they don't.

You shouldn't have to or try to justify it in any way other than because it's something you enjoy and want to do. it's not cheaper and it's not safer than driving. It's just more fun.

If she is genuinely concerned about your safety rather than about a potential inerruption to her income stream, offer to do some advanced rider training with the IAM.

One thing. If she does horse riding, you have her by the short and curlies because motorcycling is statistically 20x safer than horse riding.

Are you 17 and riding a Fireblade >100mph without a licence?

No? Then a bike is barely any more danger if you ride sensibly and wear some armour. That's what I'd say Smile

To be semi-serious for a moment... other than simply "GTFO" nobody can really help constructively without knowing the reason(s) she's putting her foot down.
Money?
Safety?
Control freak?
etc etc

what fannies

I get home on a new bike, she pays no attention until a few weeks later its " have you had a new bike?", and I say "yes"

she then says "how long have you had that?"

and I say "weeks"

usually followed by whether she likes it or not, thats about all I get

Now THAT is scary.

My O/H wont go anywhere near one; she keeps getting invited to by neighbour's mum, who has one in her spare room, but she winces and starts recounting all the scenes from Horror movies where pretty Hollywood starlets, get trapped and murdered beneath them!!!

B-u-t, statistically, it IS one of them activities like horse riding, with a lot of associated injuries, from trapped tits when they dont latch the roof properly, to 3rd degree burns when they fall asleep under'em, or long term problems like melanoma from doing it too often... Tan in a Can, I say.... much safer, and we get to laugh and make Tango jokes! lol.

Lol.

My Mrs invites me to park them indoors to be sure they aren't touched by thieves.

Won't go on one, but has absolutely zero power to say about riding them. Same as when I walk in the door with 1k worth of PC, my cash, my rules.

You are whipped like cream with all the backbone of a runny poo, hope that helps Laughing
