I have acquired a CRF250R that the previous owner failed to put antifreeze in!

It has a crack in the barrel but starts and has plenty of compression.

I have taken the engine out and am running into some problems.

1, the kickstart won’t come off, tried heat, levers, penetration fluid, not budged a mm??

2, this is more serious, the timing chain, I’m used to 2strokes and am a bit sceptical about this, in an ideal world I would like to remove the top end, possibly get head skimmed, change barrel, rings and gaskets then refit and ride.

Is there a way of removing the barrel without the chain slipping etc if not any recommendations in Lancashire that would have a look at this for me for an hourly rate??

Do you have the workshop manual for the bike as it explains the removal of the Cam Chain and Head, as for the Kick Start once the small bolt is out ,try to lever off the Kick Start from behind
Edit; try not to lever against the cover

Thank you for the reply, I have tried all sorts of pry bars and I’m just damaging the case, it hasn’t budged a mm.

I’m still not convinced about the timing chain, think I’d be better getting someone to do it for me to be honest.

Could do with finding a video as manuals are useless to me as I’m as dyslexic as they come!

Yes these kickstarts can get stuck in place with rust, probably need a home made puller, but just try knocking it on a bit further to see if it will break the rust seal, what year is your bike and what area of Lancashire do you live in

Thank you, I have ordered a bearing puller from amazon, hopefully it’ll do the job.

I’m just outside of preston, the engine is out! I just want it stripping to a point where I can order parts them reassembling if anyone fancies making a few quid??

Thanks

Thanks for the message, yes that was one of the first things I tried! Even tried that with someone prying after applying heat! It’s like it’s welded on.

I feel like it’s going to need cutting off.

Does the kickstart really need to come off? In my experience, when it seems to be glued on it's because someone glued it on after knackering the splines.

If it must come off, then you'll need to pack between the lever and case and give the spindle a good whack with a hammer. That should break off whatever is holding it.

Or you forgot to remove the clamp screw.

It is not budging, what is the clamp screw?? I have removed the bolt that holds the kickstart on! I have hit it with a hammer, borderline broken the kickstart and casing with everything I have done, tried a pulley today and that just slides off and can’t get a grip, ordered a different type of pulley now! It’s reduculas

I have bought 2 pulleys, pry bars, heat it up, hit it with a hammer, tried screwdriver in the spline, everything I can think off and it’s not moved a mm.
