It is only when hot and only at idle or very low revs. It has electronic injection. The coolant and oil are at the right level. It is more like a squeak than a whistle. Don't think anything is loose on the outside, so it comes from inside the engine. Did not notice anything wrong in the behaviour. Does anyone have an idea what or if anything is wrong?
Same model as malaguti xtm or aprilia sx and rx.

Eeeek Shocked That doesn't sound good... sounds like metal spinning against metal Sad How good are you at top end rebuilds?

Thank you for your fast reply!

I am not a mechanic, and price for mechanics in Norway is crazy high.

I was just wondering if it is a good idea to keep riding and ignore the noise. Would that hurt even more? Worst case scenario engine blows and new engine is needed. I've seen they are sold used on ebay for between 500 and 900USD (incl. shipping).

A top end rebuild in a repair shop right now would probably cost about the same, so maybe it is better to keep riding and wait for the blow?

Was going to say: if you done some top end rebuilds it'd be worth at least taking the cam cover off and having a peek inside...

Otherwise I'd at least get a bike mechanic to take a look at it.

You are right. I should go to a mechanic and ask.

Someone in another forum suggested it might be the timing chain, or a leak in the junction between the exhaust and the cylinder head.

But better take it to a few shops and ask.

Thanks, I will keep this updated!
