Do you wear protective gear?

Just reading through some post and also after driving through Glasgow on saturday it's alarming the amount of people without the right protective gear!!

I seen at least 7 or 8 bikers wearing only jeans and a jacket. One guy had his little boy on the back with a helmet but no protective gloves or boots!

Having come off and hit the road my leathers faired extremely well and they didn't cost the earth. I've no doubt my Cordura jacket would have ripped right through during my accident.

So why is it that people thinks jeans and a jacket will save them? Do people wear jeans because they are too lazy to pull some leathers on. When I passed my test I had all the right gear from the off. Helmet, gloves, leather trousers, jacket and boots.

So what do you wear when you are riding? Me? Nothing but full leathers 'just incase'.

Funny you should mention this as the most important piece of protecting your body, or a part of it is the GLOVES! Why do people always miss this one out your hands due to natural instinct hit the deck before anythign else, most jobs aare done using hands why do we get complacent with them? It makes me cringe when I see someone kitted up in full leathers but no gloves!!!

For the record I have a winter outfit and a summer outfit: -

Winter
Helmet
Cordura jacket
Cordura 100% waterproof trousers
Sidi Black rain evo boots
Tech 7 Winter gloves

Summer
Helmet
Hein Gericke 2 piece leathers
Sidi Black rain evo boots
Targa waterproof summer gloves.

A decent quaility cordura set is at least as good as a set of leathers now, I've come off more than once in a textile suit and it's been fine. Buy cheap £40 tat and it'll shred and rip the seams regardless of whether or not it's leather or manmade fabric.

I always wear full protective clothing. The main journey I make is the 1.5 miles to work and it takes me longer to get into my gear than it does to get there. Before anyone suggests I should try walking it's on the other side of a council estate and I am allergic to Chav's.

I've seen my mates Bering Cordura jacket destroy itself on a 60mph crash but his leather trousers hardly had a scratch on them!

I know what you mean Jon about the gloves. I cringed when I seen that wee boy on the back of that bike on saturday with hardly any protective gear worth mentioning including NO GLOVES!

Got to confess I can't get away with armour in my leathers. Bloody uncomfortable no matter what I try. Just have to make sure I don't fall off then.

Helmet and some protective clothing.

I have full RST leathers but dont always wear the trousers. Tend to stick to helmet, jacket, gloves and boots most of the time. Wear the leathers when I'm off out on a fun ride rather than walking round college. Laughing

If I'm only out into work I usually wear jeans. This is along with boots, gloves and jacket.
I never ever go out without my boots or gloves.
If I'm going more than a few miles its full leathers or all weather suit.

If I am going out for a proper ride it's leathers, gloves, lid (arai), Alpinestars supertech boots and knox back protector.

If I am off to work it's leather or textile jacket, waterproof boots, gloves, lid and some Triumph armoured jeans.

If I am going into town jacket, gloves and lid. I can't be assed walking round in leathers through town.

I wear what I feel like, when I feel like it. If that means popping to the shops in jeans & t-shirt, trainers and helmet so be it.

Whinges about personal experiences or third hand pub tales about crashes resulting in nurses scrubbing cuts with wire-wool will all fall on deaf ears. I really couldn't care how you fucked up.

Depends what the weather is like:

My leathers are surprisingly waterproof (don't get wet) so if its raining then full 2 piece leathers, alpinestar boots and gloves and undersuit.

If its not raining but its cold then astar boots, jeans, gloves and leather jacket with undersuit on as well.

If im going to work and ive got to wear my trousers and shirt then its jeans because the leather trousers aren't comfy over my gear.

I'm guessing by your poll choices for you your motorcycle is just used for one thing, (which is fair enough). I dress appropriately, i.e. if it's a 5 minute trip I won't be donning full leathers, or especially if I have to walk/stand around somewhere. If it's an all day ride full leathers will be matter of course though.

You wouldn't wear a £300 Berghaus waterproof jacket for a two minute walk down the shops on a sunny July afternoon, just in case it rained, would you? Wink

I'll wear what I want to wear when on my bike, usuaully at least jeans, jacket, gloves and sidi's but if I want to ride in shorts, t-shirt without gloves or boots thats up to me and not anyone else.

I don't think you've be very impressed if everyone tried to tell you what you had to wear on your bike. Riding in shorts and t-shirt might be fairly daft as far as being safe goes but it doesn't take a genius to work out that falling off in shorts and t-shirt is really going to hurt.

The whole telling horror stories really doesn't help the safety nazi's, if anything it just makes people more against them as they're annoying.
