Whatever your manual says, although I usually use decent semi synthetic working on the principle, rightly or wrongly, if I need to top up the oil and I haven't got the correct one with me, semi synth is more likely to be available and compatible.

I usually use Shell advance simply because I worked for them or Motul because it's easily available.

As for changing it, all you are doing if you change it early is wasting money, especially if it's expensive oil.

Just use old cooking oil. Change it when the smell of chips stops or the engine stops, whichever is sooner. Don't use stuff from the other half of the frier or your bike will smell of fish and battered mars-bars and you'll have children chasing you down the street with forks in their hands.

If you are in Edinburgh, you might want to pre-mix some brown sauce in the fuel so you don't get battered but only use vinegar on the West coast.

We tend to use lard in the North East. I always slightly overfill and when I'm on a ride and hungry I dip bread soldiers down the filler hole.

Dunno tbh. I'm using a semi-synthetic but only cos it's what a CCM parts supplier lists! I change way before it's due but only because it's an older engine and I give it hell. Costs more but meh it's only 1.7 litres.

Lavender for economy, Tea Tree if you're running in.

I got a silkoline and k&n filter deal online, oil is what the manual says so will do as such. i dont think you can do it too often really. dont forget sump bolt washer needs to be new. unless you have your own way of sealing. Smile

I've been using beef dripping but the consumption went sky high after I fitted the Scottish Plain Filter.

I like the Essential Oil suggested by The Shaggy D.A.

The Mrs. swears by Ylang Ylang but I just checked online and it's extortionate.

Old chip pan oil it is.

Stinkwheel, is there a way to pour the used oil that fish was cooked in through fullers earth to remove the fishy smell? I think I read something about that.

No, weight! The others are having you on. Use Castrol R40, it's not syntheyetic or minerall so it's very good for the planet, greeter thuneberger's dad uses it all the time, and also it's so good you only need to use half the normal quantity in your engine so it are reallt cheep two.. There should be no need to change it for the life of the engine.

Don't you have to say his name three times whilst looking in a mirror or something?
