A friend and myself were discussing bikes/talking shite.
The subject of replacing a wheel on one of his project bikes came up.

The usual route of going down the breakers was touted.
Then we started talking about aftermarket wheels for bikes that are not so prestige.
What’s out there? Would they be expensive? Can you get lighter?

Just asking Thumbs Up

One bike we are talking about is a Suzuki ts250.
It had a steel rim on the front wheel and we found a lighter alloy rimmed wheel that fits at Kempton auto jumble a while back.
He’s struggling to find an ally rimmed rear wheel for said bike.

Me personally: when the wheels were off my Hyosung, I thought “blimey they’re heavy for ally wheels?”

So I thought about replacements..?, it could all just be fanciful nonsense that comes to nothing , but there’s no harm in asking.

When I stripped the Kawasaki's alloy wheels for painting I was surprised how light they were. When I rebuilt them it was obvious the real weight was in the brake discs and the tyres, so I wonder how much benefit there is in getting lighter wheels. I've read good reports, it just surprises me.

If you're keeping the hub then any rim you like... although probably best to stick with the same diameter and width Smile

1st generation Africa Twin owners are used to having after market rims and spokes fitted to their original wheel hubs. Not for any performance reasons, just because the rims crumble and fall apart with age. I've got two sets in the garage and the rims look like the Elephant Man's knob on the outside, God knows what they look like inside the tyre nowadays.

This is off the net, my old wheels are much worse.

Akront (now made by a company called Morad) used to be the wheel rim of choice for spoked wheels, especially for off road bikes.

Very light, very strong and top drawer quality, although you paid for it.

My XL600R came from the factory with alloy rims by DID, anodised in a rather fetching gold; I think you can still buy them in various sizes.

Marchesini make wheels in various exotic materials, but they are mad money.
