PostPosted: 23:52 - 08 Feb 2020    Post subject: How much is my Aprilia RS 50 2004 worth? Reply with quote

hi there, I have recently rebuilt my Aprilia RS 50 2004 with a top performance 86cc engine. I have done many upgrades and added features to it. I have done well over 500 hours of work on it. I am wondering how much I could sell it for? (it is still registered as a 50cc)
I have done the following to it:

86cc top performance top end
Race crank
New crank seals and bearings
New chain
New high ratio sprokets
Bored crankcase for better fuel flow.
Full engine rebuild
Racing air intake
28mm nibbi carburetor
Upgraded reeds
New oil pump
New oil connectors
New wheel bearings
New rpm cable
New handlebar end caps
Frame sliders
New racing clutch plates and springs
New racing oil
New brake pads
Radio and bluetooth stereo
Remote control led lights
Adjustable rpm speed limiter with switch
Larger intake manifold
New clutch cable
New throttle cable
New radiator
Complete respray to matt black
Heated grips
Remote start and engine cut off
Alarm and finder.
New indicators
New starter motor
New clutch and brake handles
Custom shifter peg
race clutch
New battery
Battery shut off switch
New wing mirrors
New windshield
Hydraulic electric phone charger
Tyre pressure monitor
Custom choke

please could you let me know how much it is worth. thanks.

It depends on what it looks like, and whether or not it works properly. Practically no-one sane will buy it as a 50cc. Practically no-one with money will buy it, 'cos they'll buy something else. I would guess probably somewhere between £800 and £1,400.

WTF is a hydraulic electric phone charger?

Ain't worth much as has been said. If anything, buyers want such bikes unmolested (regardless of skills and quality of parts used). Few people actually stay with 50 cc bikes unless it's 'the thing' in some mainland countries.
Are you in the UK or overseas??

Sounds like just the sort I thing I need to go chasing my kid on his moped - I've been looking at mopeds and 125s recently as my Ducati gets bored if it can't get out of second...

Shame it's been rattle canned matt black and I'm not sure what a hydraulic electric phone charger is (how do you keep the water topped up?). Does it really need a radio?

And it's a big long list but nothing about tyres, suspension or what make the bore kit / crank / exhaust are...

Any smart person would buy the 125 instead.

Most the that stuff at best doesn't add any value to the bike and in the worst case the parts make the bike be worth less. The fact you've spent 500(!) hours working on it means nothing.

Based on sold prices on eBay I reckon yours would go for somewhere around £700 on a good day.

Sorry if this sounds harsh but if you're expecting £600-700 then should bidding on eBay go higher than that then you'll be pleased. If you expect a grand for it then you'll probably be disappointed.

Ste is right. It really adds the sum of fcuk all and could even devalue it.

Customising is something you do because you want to, not to make a profit (unless you run a specialist workshop).

It's even more of an issue with small cc bikes as you have taken it out of the <50cc bracket and into the 125cc class where you might as well buy a clean standard 125 that's probably faster and more forgiving to ride.

Sorry.

I Googled hydraulic electric phone charger - I do believe op has installed a micro turbine and casing into the cooling system of the bike. They can come with a micro generator as part of them. They use the flow of (cooling) water to turn a small generator and op is charging a phone via it.
Jeez that's some OTT stuff going on!

That's possibly the most ridiculous concept I've ever heard. One (very small) step away from having a wind turbine attached to the fairing

He hasn't realised that the bike already has a charging system?

You've given it a service, and painted it matt black, it's worth £500 as a bike that's no use for anyone who would want to use it on the road Laughing

An Aprilia RS50 2004 will be a two stroke.

Just as well. A 4 stroke probably wouldn't have enough power to charge your phone, and make you tea.

I missed that bit. My guesstimate was as optimistic as I could make it (you never know - could get lucky), but in view of being matt black (FGS, why?) knock off 1/3.

rather than discuss what its made of/can do whatever I would recommend posting a picture of it (cover up reg plates as you can't trust us lot Mr. Green ) so we can actually see what it looks like and what state it is in.

I'd try and get it looking clean, and fairly original on the outside, and don't have any crusty, rusty bits or tired faded plastics or worn tyres etc that are easy to knock your price down.

It's a non standard bike and thus is never going to appeal to a big target audience. But if its mechanically sound, and cosmetically tidy then it's going to be easier to sell to that tiny market. It's the sort of bike that if it's in a race replica bright lairy colour scheme, it's probably not going to hurt its value or limit its tiny appeal.

My only advice would be to advertise it with some of modifications as an ideal moped for a 16yr old, but that it's tuned, very fast, has dyno prints and has been worked on by a professional specialist hopefully.

Although it's illegal, you don't want or need to advertise that. I sold a tuned twist n go scooter 15 years ago that had loads of engine work and modifications done to it. I took pictures and put in the ad (tuned engine, set up by XX tuning, very fast, ideal learner bike) etc etc, and the phone was ringing every night for a week or so. I wasn't trying to sell it to an old lady to fetch the shopping on, I wanted to tempt a young kid to buy it, who would probably have only gone and done all the same tuning to a std one.

Seems like a good offer for a 16 year old bike that wasn't that desirable to begin with and has now had a whole raft of spurious mods, fitted by an amateur, which takes it beyond the limits allowed by our licencing laws for it's target market.

I wouldn't want it as a present.
