 |

Hi,
I'm new to this board so first of all hello!
Quick question. I'm thinking about getting a new helmet. I've had mine 2 and a half years, It's never been dropped, but it does get one hell of a lot of use. Quick calculations figure that it's done about 30,000 miles so far! There are a few scuffs on the side from just wear and tear, but I've generally taken care of it. It's a caberg J1+. The other main reason of changing the helmet is that, as i ride in all weathers the helmet has gotten wet a good few times. It's really starting to smell! My head mings!
Thinking of getting the caberg v2. I saw this last week in J&S while i was getting some other new gear. I love the double visor, as i wear glasses and i don't have pescription sunny's I see this as a massive +. Not sure about a full face after only ever having a flip up. From what I've read on older posts, full face are mean to be safer.
Anyone tried the V2?
Any help or advice welcome! |

Just bought myself a new Helmet, a Shoei Raid. Best fitting helmet I've ever tried on and quite light.
J&S seem to do good deals as well. Never looked at the Caberg ones but tried on just about every other helmet in the shop. My old FM one is a ton weight compared to the Shoei.
Still if it's the Caberg your after, that one looks quite nifty.
Oh, and welcome to the forum ____________________ Old bikes >>> https://www.bikepics.com/members/cc123/ |

have you taken the insides out and cleaned them yet? If not then you may try that for a temporary measure, it'll freshen them up.
But you should be replacing the helmet round about now anyway (reccomended every 2 years)

Think it used to be every five years you should change a helmet, guess it depends on how the manufacturers sales are doing
If the lining isn't removable you can always rinse the inside of the helmet with a shower head. Does make a difference but it takes a few days to dry so prior planning is needed.
If you fancy a new lid get one, is for safety after all |

I believe the 2 year recommended replacement interval was for polycarbonate shelled helmets, which go brittle and nasty with prolonged exposure to the sun and other agents. A decent glass fibre or composite helmet is recommended to be replaced every 5 or so years.
To be honest with those though, I personally reckon that the condition of the lining is more important, as long as it hasn't been dropped too many times or crashed in. Obviously over time the lining will compress further and further just from normal use. Eventually the helmet will be a sloppy enough fit that if it were new, you'd probably not wear it. ____________________ I must not be a troll...

Well said Mchaggis
I've seen helmets that are 10years old plus, but perfectly looked after. No straches, never dropped etc. These are the real fair weather rides, only doing say 1000miles if that a year.
Personally would recommend changing your helmet every 1-2 years. On reasons being that tech. is forever getting better. Lighter helmets, better vents, less noise and even BMW (i believe) have made a helmet where you can see behind you.

I tried on some prototype helmets at Dave Parry in Cheltenham.
The ones with mirrors make you feel a bit weird.
The other one was a helmet with a visor and then a second black one behind it, the design might have been around for a while but it was extremely light. ____________________ Cleverly disguised as a responsible adult.

That's what I've just got!
The double visor is fantastic especially as i wear glasses.
I never realised how heavy my helmet was until now, this new one is like a feather!
I'm well happy! |

Hi, I've got the Justissimo version of that helmet, the less pretty of the two. The double visor's great especially when you're riding into the sun... damn that's such a cliché.
Erm, yeah, mine fits great but is kinda heavy though so I may invest in one of these V2s in the future.
Glad you're happy with it
Wow, the site even has 'kickstart' written at the bottom, maybe that is a sign... unless Mr. Kickstart is happy with his lid. I'm gonna shut up! ____________________ The tiger who came for a pint |
