True, but manufacturers build to emissions and AM/A1/A2 specs. A 2-stroke with the only limit being the 50cc capacity could easily give a "standard" 125 a run for its money.

Then again "the candle that burns twice as bright..." having a 650 you approach casually, e.g. RE Interceptor, versus a 50cc screamer - which one's gonna need an engine rebuild every 6 months Smile

As an aside, I should really cut the the Interceptor some slack. In the past I've slated it's surprising lack of power (not much more than my Rebel but a good few kg heavier) but then you have a 650 engine under so little stress, greatly extending its lifespan.

Thanks again for all the comments and tips. I actually started this thread after a bad experience on my mod 1 test. Long story short I could only get 47/48 kph.. I wondered as the rules are so strict with the Mod 1 50kph minimum (48kph with a minor fault, any less than 48kph a fail). I was sure there was things I could do to get an extra 1 or 2 kph but thought if after all that if I'd then have any problems with mod 2 as if so I may aswell forget both with this bike. The good news is that after some practicing with the speed around an empty car park and using the mod 1 diagram, I've managed to get the boke to around 53kph by just going to full throttle from mid corner. I completed the Mod 1 test yesterday (at a different test centre). The examiner (or whatever the correct term is), almost fell over when he seen the speed, his face lit up and started laughing and joking with me "it's a little rocket". The controlled stop - I got 55kph, the emergency stop I got to 58kph! I asked the examiner after the test if max speed of 50 to 60mph would be a problem for mod 2 and he reassured me they'd take the bike into consideration. So as many people here have said already it shouldn't be a problem for anyone worrying about this on a (slow compared to most at top speed) 125. I'll book my mod 2 for next week.
