125 or car?

i know im most likely to get very bike biased opinions here
but do i want a 125 or a car when i hit 17.
I currently have a scooter and find myself bored with it, but as soon as i get on a geared bike im young again:D
however the car is more expensive but surely will be a lot more practical, but i just love bikes?!?!? i don't know what to do

Agree with Git on this.

The car you'll get for 125 money will be crap anyway & insurance will be expensive.
Get a runaround 125 (nothing fancy) and save pennies for car.
But it will be likely that once you have enough money for a car & it's running costs you will want to take your test and get a bigger bike!

Do what my plan is - buy a cheap 125 get your test, (thats as far as I am) get your car test and buy a car whenever you can afford it.

Depending on how much money you can get together you could do your test and get a 33bhp restricted bike... many of us have been there and done that...

Myself, my mums a driveing instructor, done loads of driveing but just never bothered doing the test, haveing a car licence and cars to borrow makes it more difficult to justify a bike (and no feckin way thats going!)

If you can get lifts when you need them (for wardrobes and all that rubbish) then why would you need a car?

Also haveign a car you'll end up driveing your mates allover the place, which gets tedious, on the bike you can just "forget" the spare helmet, on L plates you can't anyway..

Get Bike licence> Get bike> Scab lifts when needed> Get a car later when your grown up and responsible

Driving is less fun but its very easy, doesn't require the same concentration to drive as to ride, hence why you can have a radio and passengers to chat to while your in a car

It depends - do you have a girlfriend or not? I'd agree with Git - get a 125, save the money, get a car. The only barrier to keeping both is money and space, and both are solvable if you want them bad enough.

I was stuck in this exact same position just a few weeks back, execpt im 18 It was a tough decision but i have chosen to learn to drive for practicallity reasons (as im not paying for lessons), while continuing to ride my scooter and then when i pass my car test, i will buy a geared 125, and progress slowly from there onwards...

I like you had the choice of bike or car, but i stuck with two wheels, just because the satisfaction of filtering past my m8s stuck in their new shiny cars onthe way into college outweighs any pluses a car may have...

except of course getting design coursework into college...that proves tricky

ive had 125's for nearly a year now, my mother is still pressuring me to do my car test, she will even give me her car, but it just doesnt interest me...

i started riding when i was 16, was never interested in driving...
am now 18 with restricted license... am taking driving lessons with my stepdad, and am happy to drive round with him in the car on 'L's... not gunna take my test for ages yet.

Shouldn't the question be whether you should pass your car or bike test?

If you've got the money to pass your car test and buy/insure a car then you can do the same and get a half decent bigger bike.

Then you are talking about quite a big difference in what you would be spending, so I would have thought that would be the major factor.
