In my limited experience, RST, Richa and Spada branded boots
are pure shite. Split leather, falling apart because of failed stitching,
soles wearing right through in a very short time.....
For bike, work or hiking boots. a leather upper will probably be
more durable than plastic.
A Gore membrane will probably stay waterproof for longer
than the various look-alike alternatives.
Even at the budget end of the range, European made boots are
significantly better than stuff from the far east.
TCX, Alpinestars and Falco make reasonably good boots.
With a bit of shopping around, you should find a good pair
of leather/GoreTEX boots for close to your budget.
My TCX Infinity boots are still in great condition at seven years
old. They haven't seen huge mileage, as they aren't used for
daily hacking. At their current rate of wear, they should last
for the rest of my biking life.
My Alpinestars Web GTX boots are six years old, getting a
bit scruffy, but still perfectly serviceable. They have seen
a lot of wear-and-tear as my everyday riding boots.

Def Alpinestars. Only last 8 years I've had waterproof SMX-4's, SMX-5's, SMX-6's, the race SMX-plus's and I'm now commuting (well, I was) on the slightly cheaper SMX-S's. All done well, even the ones I had picked up second hand. Crashed in them countless times, had boot between bike and road, come off on track (in the Plus's), always held up well and held me up well.
Reliability wise, I found the soles wore thin after about 18 months of daily use, then once they've worn through a hole they're no longer waterproof. I've had nothing else whatsoever fail on them.
Do spend a bit more for the 'WP' waterproof version, or Goretex variant and they'll never let you down. ____________________ Beginner Biker Adventures Blog

Ive been wearing TCX 5 Gore Tex boots for about 15 years (on my second or third pair) and they get worn every day and are almost totally waterproof. I dont think I've ever paid full price I tend to buy a new pair when I see a retailer selling off the previous years marginally different model when a revised version is made.
here we go this looks like old model vs new
https://www.ebaystores.co.uk/SPORTSBIKESHOP-LTD/_i.html?LH_TitleDesc=on&x=0&y=0&_nkw=tcx+five&
I might grab another pair at £110 its a bargain for my feet at least.... |
