Bike smells of petrol sometimes

Noticed that intermittently i can smell petrol while riding. Seems to come and go. No MPG loss and no visible leaks. On inspecting the petrol cap, the rubber gasket looks a little perished, has some small cracks but not sure if that would be enough to cause the smell?

The MOT test checks the condition of it and that would fail.

Strange. Looks like Suzuki in their infinite wisdom dont have a part number for the gasket only, instead they sell the entire cap as one unit for £110. Lol no, i'll just have to botch it somehow

I'm sure you can knock one up from nitrile or viton rubber (petrol proof).

A bit of digging and some others on a forum have replaced their Bandit and other Suzuki models with this:

Ill take mine apart tomorrow and see if it matches the measurements in the listing. Bike is a 2005 so these things are to be expected. Surprised none of the vacuum lines have split yet

I think making my own is the only answer. It was easy to take off:

Outside diameter 63mm
Inside diameter 36mm
Thickness 2.5mm outside
6mm inside thickness (has a lip type thing)

I'd have to make one flat one and then add another smaller gasket in order to make the inside diameter thicker than the outside diameter, if that makes sense. Maybe cork would last longer?

Nitrile rubber expands and goes soft with today`s fuel, Viton rubber is better.
