Only just joined the site as i have only recently come to the realisation that i cannot just jump on my bike, ride somewhere, and jump off again, and then call myself a biker.

Got an old 2007 Honda Shadow VT125C that needs a bit of work, turns over when trying to start but will not actually start. Also definately need to replace the chain and sprockets, as well as possibly the front and back brakes.

The guy before me went for a horrid machine grey colour that looks like absolute shit and stuck darth vader stickers all over the body, will definately be looking to clean, strip and repaint the whole thing.

All in all i think im looking at a fair amount of work and will basixally be learning everything as i go as i have very very little mechanical knowledge when it comes to bikes and have never done any of this stuff before

Looking forward to having the piss ripped out of me when i post updates about how im getting on!

Welcome, there's a lot of experience here and most are happy to help!
Learn who the obnoxious bored chumps are (that shouldn't be too hard!) and enjoy!

Welcome.
Try the Workshop section for information about getting your bike going again.
Is this your first bike?
Have you been interested in bike for a long time or is this new to you?

Look into buying a decent set of tools from Halfords (or wherever). They will last you for years. Most jobs are pretty easy, it's the lack of the correct tool that makes the job a f**ing pig.

Dont get hung up on paint especially on an old bike
"Chrome dont get you home" and all that.
Fix bike first, worry about looks later.

How refreshing to read an articulate first post that isn't demanding we fix or value his/her bike in gibberish.

Indeed. However I suspect those who get a kick from being internet keyboard heroes will be circling ready to bully and chase off another new member -whilst bitching that BCF is dying...

Ah, a fellow VT125 owner. Welcome.

Mines a 2006, but defo needs a bit of TLC. First thing I did was get hold of the relevant user & workshop manuals.

How many miles you got on it?

They'll only rip the piss out of you if they like you.
Otherwise they'll just work on getting you banned.

So good luck with that, Grasshopper.
