Hi All,
So today i invested in a now tv stick to try out for £15, we currently have a basic sky q package with one extra mini box, this is now costing £51.40 a month and ive had enough of it, it drops connections a few times a month and theirs only a handfull of channels we watch, these i can get on now tv for £8.99 a month (entertainment package).
What im after doing is binning sky all together as i only have two months left in the contract and using a freeview box with the now tv.
The questions are as I dont want to shell out for a new telly and i dont need anything more than 1080 hd does any one have any thoughts on which would be a good box with the ability to record would be nice also.
Second I will need new aerials as the existing are ancient, i will have 3 tv`s in the house so will i need 3 aerials or will one suffice split in the loft with a splitter running in shielded coax?, having sky for so long has made my limited knowledge even worse. Also freeview play
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Mark

You'd want a powered splitter like this.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Signal-Booster-SLx-Amplifier-27820BMR/dp/B00DCVX2E0
In a half decent signal area you might get away with a loft aerial depending on roof material, even if that means getting a higher gain option e.g.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Labgear-LAB450T-Very-High-Aerial-Silver-Black/dp/B00I7TUH7C
(usually comes with F type connector)

Good coax with shielding is important to get all channels, there are often some on a lower output.

You seem to be approaching or exceeding the cost of a new smart TV.

Our boxes have passthrough ports so we have two running off of a single feed from our dish.

From my roof I can see the tip of Emily Moor TV mast, so I have zero problems with a loft aerial. I have 3 separate aerials, £10 each job, zero issues, use good quality cabling and connectors.

Regarding ditching sky, I did exactly the same with Virgin.

We ended up getting a new BT you view box from eBay, they are Humax, it has all the apps and records etc.

Another vote for free sat. We ditched sky, plugged in a fancy humax recording box in the living room and got a cheaper than chips one for the bedroom. It worked instantly.

I haven't missed sky at all. Well, except for the footy but it's stopped now anyway Laughing

All good. Thumbs Up

Thanks for the replies, my existing aerials are old and shit, not even straight but my sky dish is only 15 months old, the recordable boxes are all similar in price and a quick tally up shows i can have 2 humax recordable boxes with cabling and 2 nowtv sticks installed and its still less than sky q costs for the first year then it becomes just the now tv after that for £8.99 a month, better than £51.40 a month, i am tempted with the dish option because i have plenty of houses between our roof and winter hill as our street drops below ( its a bungalow).
More reading and costing needed Very Happy
