Hi guys and gals.

I'm totally new here and also to biking in general, so pls kindly bear with me during my cries for help!

Long story. I'm in my 60s and decided to finally do something about my midlife crisis, so I bought a bike, but budget had to be followed, so I settled on a very nice looking Keeway Superlight 125.

I only bought it a few weeks ago and it was the highlight of my sad little life! Anyway, I usually take it for a spin locally and it has been running fine.
However, yesterday, I decided to to take it for a spin and unfortunately stalled it in 1st gear.

Now, no matter what I do, the little green light wont come on that signifies neutral, and of course, the bike wont start.

I have tried gently moving the bike in gear back and forth but still nothing.
The gear lever seems to shift ok into 2nd and 3rd etc but the neutral lamp will not come on.

I am totally ignorant about bike mechanicals and this has really really destroyed my enthusiasm. Please can somebody help me?
I only picked it up for £700 with just 8000 miles on it so I doubt if the clutch is gone. I have asked some friends, one of whom said it will cost over £500 to strip it down and fix it, which I cannot afford as I'm on a pension.

I know. Sad. Pls help.

Try putting it into what you think neutral should be. This is still possible without the light being on. To check if you've found neutral, try rolling the bike. if it's in neutral and the clutch is out it should roll freely.

It's normally easier to go down from second than up from 1st.

Hi Nobby and thanks so much for your fast reply!

I think if I put it in 1st, the bike clearly is in gear cos it doesnt budge.

But I am going to try putting it in neutral to check if it is really neutral.

If I put it in neutral and it still appears to remain in 1st, I will need you guys to help me again! Sorry! I'm checking it now and will post back.

Many thanks helping an old geezer out!

Ok, heres what happens when I put it in neutral....

The bike rolls freely! So I assume when the lever is in neutral, the bike is really in neutral?

But cos the green light isnt coming on, I cant start the damn thing!
Help!!

So, first off. Is it still under warranty.

If yes ring the dealer.

If no, try starting it with the clutch pulled in.

Also do you have a multimeter?

Hi again, Nobby.

No, I bought it second hand so no dealer warranty.

And no multimeter although I can buy one later if need be.

I am going to try kick starting it with the clutch lever pulled in now...

Thanks so much!

Ok, Nobby!

So I tried kickstarting it as you suggested, with the clutch lever pulled in, but it fails to start.

Thats with it in neutral, bike rolling free.

Any ideas, pls?

Put the side stand up, pull the clutch in and try.

Yes, tahts exactly how I did it! With side stand on.

Held the clutch in and kicked it. Nothing.

Sorry Kawasaki Jimbo!

Thanks for the info.

I'm new here so dont know how to reply to your comment!

I have noticed a switch mounted on the clutch lever. Is that the killswitch?

Big red button on the right handlebar.

Edit: a quick Google image search suggests it might not be red on the Keeway Superlight.

Could be the neutral switch is bad. Find it and disconnect the wire from it. Hold it against the engine/transmission case and the green light should come on. If that is the case, then a new switch should fix your problem.

Don't know where the neutral switch is on your bike. On my YBR it is under a cover near the front sprocket. A shop manual for your bike would be a worthwhile investment. Don't panic. Your problem is not likely to be expensive to repair.

Clutch ins nd stand up bypasses the neutral switch.

Do any of the lights work?

Thanks to all you guys who replied!

I think I may have found the problem. Got my hefty son to kickstart it, as he doesnt have knee problems like I have!

Bike started fine. Tried to leave it running but I let go the throttle too early!

But when it was running, the neutral green light came on fine.

So looks like it's a flat battery! I am going to charge it if I can first to see if it starts up electrically rather than kickstart.

Will report back in a few days.

Many many thanks from a happier old geezer!
