Hi everybody. Thought I’d quickly introduce myself before I start bombarding you all with questions.
I’m Matt, I passed my DAS a couple of years ago, and briefly had a CBR650F which I pottered about on.
I ended up selling it to buy a van to transport my lads’ karts in as they kart race.
Anyway.....
I fancy getting myself another bike to go on little ride outs, and possibly longer tours as I meet new people etc.
Not sure on what I want. I’m 6ft tall so need something comfy, so edging more towards a tourer or sport tourer as I’m not really comfy on a proper sports bike.
I was fancying a MT-09, but after more research, found they probably aren’t the best kind of bikes for longer rides. I was looking at VFR800’s and the like (after watching YouTube videos), but I think they might be too big and bulky for a semi-beginner and for the shorter rides that I’d be starting out with.
Anyway, that’s my quick intro, and hope to meet some new friends on here.
Thanks for reading,
Matt

If you like the MT09 but want more comfort, look at the Tracer 900. Same engine, taller and upright seating position. It's firmly in the sports tourer category but with an adventure bike riding position. Light and easy enough to ride, but can be pretty lairy when you open it up and let out it's inner hooligan. Lots of character

VFR would be fine I think, it's also an easy bike to handle and the power is is delivered in a.managable fashion. It is heavy which might make slow control a little trickier but overall an easy bike to ride that makes fast riding easy. Crossrunner variant is vastly under rated and actually a very capable machine, slow control easier than the normal ones by virtue of the upright seating and wide bars. I bought one as a temporary measure and two years later I still have it because I find it works so well. It's a good all rounder.

Sprint ST is another good option in the sports tourer category.

Hi, and thank you.
I have recently seen the tracer is pretty much built around the MT, so I need to read some more reviews and go and look at one, although some quick review reading suggests it’s a little lacking in the equipment?
I haven’t seen the Sprint ST, I will give that a look up.

Thanks again,
Mat

The only reason I didnt mention the sprint is because you can only get them second hand.

I dont know much about the gt.

I won’t be looking to get a brand new bike to start with, just something to see if I’m actually going to enjoy being back out and about before I splash out.
Luckily I still have all the new riding gear which I bought, so won’t need to spend too much on those Smile

welcome, Mattyfab. I can vouch for the '98-'01 fifth generation VFR, having owned two. Where else can you find a machine capable of 140mph or 50 mpg with a 250 mile range? Never had either of mine north of 120mph, bud did manage to squeeze 270 miles out of a tank one time, albeit at more or less legal highway speeds. The VFR will definitely put a grin on your face...you might even find yourself howling in your helmet. Like you, I am also 6 ft tall and have a 32 inch inseam. I could go maybe 90 minutes before leg cramp set in; nevertheless, put in 13 hour days on several occasions and had the time of my life. VFRD is a great discussion group you might want to check out.

Hi,
Thanks for your input. The VFR does look a lovely thing, I’m just worried it might be too big to start with as I get to grips with riding again. I won’t be commuting etc, just purely pleasure riding.
I’ll cast my eye over VFRD (can you PM me the address plz)
Cheers,
Mat

The Tracer looks good, might have to test ride one of them. A bit big maybe for someone with a new DAS but still looks good, and the reports are alright in terms of ride.
