I stood and watched the father from my local father and son motor engineers panel beat a front fender for a vintage car from a sheet of mild steel using a leather cushion, wooden blocks and shaped hammers. He then filled the planishing marks with an acetlylene torch and huge copper soldering iron. Should've videoed it.
He said they used to sweat body panels of old crashed cars, apparently you could get pounds of lead solder off them. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”
I did the 2010 Round Britain Rally on my 350 Bullet. 89 landmarks, 3 months, 9,500 miles. |
