Fancying one of these, anyone got one, thoughts experiences etc. Gets a good write up and I need something lighter than the BMW behemoth I have.

I have the Tracer 700, light weight bike, comfortable, can do 100 miles without stopping without a problem, can hold its own, good build quality and have had no problems.
It has a good engine and is extremely nippy, good value for the money.

Ride one, and for more than just a 20 minute blast.

I really like them, fantastic engine that offers plenty of excitement. Suspension is adequate, but shows its flaws when pushing harder (which it really encourages you to do). I have not tried the GT model which is supposed to be better in that department. Quick shifter works well.

What I will say is that I liked it a little less after getting my crossrunner which was supposed to be a stop gap untill I bought a Tracer. The Tracer is more exciting, but the CR makes making progress easy and it has a more composed chassis, better brakes and just a more solid feel. The tracer engine in a lighter weight CR frame would be excellent. The tracer just felt a bit cheaper and I felt that the CR was just more rounded and refined.

This is why I suggest trying to get a longer test ride. The tracer is immediately fun and entertaining (more so than the CR) but spending a little more time with it will show you more if what it would be like to live with rather than just going for a quick supermoto style hoon.

That said, I'm looking to change my CR next year and I'll be looking hard at the tracer again.

Ive only ridden the first gen one, mt09 tracer, not the tracer 900 with the longer swingarm

- Engine is mega fun and sounds brilliant
- Riding position was nice and good ergos, good compromise of upright/lean and fairly relaxed legs, good feeling of sitting 'in' it rather than on it.
- Fairly low seat height and decent cog, was easy to push around, have feet down at lights etc

-Fueling was pretty abysmal at part open throttle. Quite annoying in 30's trying to keep it steady as you have the throttle set still but it just feels like on/off/on/off etc, I was told this is better in the A mode. Also was told a remap/exhaust you can smooth it out pretty good.

- Suspension was so-so on the front, big bumps + the jerky fueling really upset it in some parts. Rear shock seemed fine for single rider.

- Stock screen caused really irritating buffeting. I'd imagine either super short one of a much larger one is the best option.

- Seat was rock solid.

- Dash was pretty crowded/intuitive and a bit hard to see in sunlight.

My conclusion was 6k was a steep figure for what it was offering. With that said, if one came up cheap, I would still have one as the engine and position made up for all the downsides, most of the others can be modded.

Not sure if you're looking new or used but the BMW F900XR looks pretty good as well. Reviews have been pretty good all round.

I assumed he was thinking of purchasing one legitimately rather than ‘acquiring’ one...

Whereas I just assumed he would want to keep it.

After a couple of days driving around looking at different bikes I went for a Tracer 700GT! 6 months old, uprated suspension (shock and fork preload/emulator kit) and other bits I would have put on.
Why not the 900? Simply the 700 felt more 'fun'. Smaller, more nimble, better riding position for me, simpler in that I'm not interested in rider modes, traction control etc.
I've ridden the 900 before, my mate has one but not the 700. Was very surprised at how grunty and eager it is, reminded me of my first YPVS in terms of a fun potential giant killer.
I've done all the superbike/racing/ragging around like a loon thing and tbh got a bit bored with it, this made me smile.
So it gets delivered early next week, hence the change in the weather!

Nice that you found one with the suspension already upgraded. Saves some expense and bother.
Funny that someone would do that and then sell after only 6 months though. I suppose they had their reasons.

Join the club, hope you have as much fun on it as I do, recommended mods are radiator guard, engine bars and soft panniers.
It is a great no frills bike, only problem I have noted is the fuel tank quantity indication, I read somewhere that the tank sensor is from a 900 and it tends to tell you that the tank is nearing reserve but there is still half a tank left, not serious when you are aware of it.
Have fun.
