Hi guy,

I recently got a CBF600 year 2000 for a cafe racer project. I'm looking to remove the OEM air box and replace them with K&N air pods.

Would I 100% need my carbs rejetted? or can I get away with it. Also, does anyone know what K&N Air pods would work for the CBF600?

Thanks!

Just don't. As well as having to rejet because the pods will alter the amount of air getting in, do you really think you could make it run better across the rev range than the manufacturer who probably spent millions developing it?

Fair enough if you are planning on racing it so focusing on just the top end of the rev range is advantageous but in that case why a cbf? There are better bikes to start from.

There's no "maybe" option. Doing anything with the exhaust? "Café Racer" so probably Wink

It is doable bu would need re jetting big time and lots of dyno time ! or massive patience and a wide band fuel air meter and lots or road testing + lots of jets !

Setting up pod filters is a utter pain !

You're on your own if you do. It would be a certifiable nightmare to set up. Not even dynojet make a jet kit for pods for them. Strongly advise against it, the airbox is there for a reason.

I should add, it's almost certainly not simply a change of main jet. It would probably need a different needle profile and quite possibly alterations on the throttle valve spring/cutaway/vacuum dynamic. Even with a free breathing air filter, most of these bikes need a the needle and spring swapping out and often a hole driling/widening in the throttle valve.

I could see that type of bike working reasonably well with a single seat conversion but I'd aim to keep the airbox if I were you. If you're keeping the original tank and front seat, the airbox is hidden anyway. And you have somewhere to put the battery.

It's a cluttered-looking liquid-cooled engine and carb setup anyway on those so it's not like the airbox is blocking any aesthetics you'd want on show.
