Hi all
Was wondering whether to buy the tcom headset that i have already for my 1 helmet, or there are some life hacks that you do to talk with a pillion?
I don't really use the bluetooth for 800m option just to connect to my phone, and 50£ for 1 is not so cheap so was thinking of some alternate options, unless there are non they will go with this.

Thanks guys!

A "life hack" sounds very nasty.

Don't people use mobile 'phones for this? Plug it in, with ear buds/microphone before you start off, phone the other phone, and put the phone in a pocket where you can't get at it. Switch on. Go. Talk. Stop. Switch off.

I think the best option is to get another headset; it's designed for the purpose and if anything like mine, you never even know it's in the helmet but it works when you need it to. Minimum faff (which to me is important).

While possible, I'm not sure this is ideal. Few 'phone earphones actually provide any level of sound deadening (although I appreciate not everyone rides with earplugs, personally I hate riding without them) so there's the first issue, the second is microphone positioning as it needs to be near your mouth for your voice to be loud enough compared with wind noise (so most earphones just have a mic on the cord somewhere) and while using a call might work for a short while, but my 'phone gets pretty hot on an extended call - not sure I'd want that quite literally burning a hole in my pocket!

I think almost everyone I know who's bought comms for their pillion has ended up regretting it (at least judging by the large number of sets belonging to couples I know or who've met which mysteriously "don't work"...)

Double-tap on the shoulder = need a wee soon, can we stop in the near future
Frantic tapping on the shoulder = emergency in progress, pull the fuck over right now.

I think that covers all necessary eventualities?

Mrs SJ and I had one twenty odd years ago. I binned it after one use, the distraction of a pillion babbling in your ear when you're trying to concentrate on what you are doing is enough to drive you up the wall.

The only lower cost one I've used is the Fodsports M1S Pro at £55/unit. I can heartily recommend those, about 85-90as good as the high end/expensive Sena and Scala units.

I use the to link two riders, continuously for up to 10 hours reliably. Good for music too.

By life hack i meant something as in just use normal headphones tape mic on helmet by your mouth, or some bluetooth headset that only connects to your phone, sort of like bluetooth headphones as i don't need 800meters or 1000 meters range on bluetooth to connect to other device.

I had these with my friend https://smile.amazon.co.uk/Motorcycle-FreedConn-Waterproof-Communication-Microphone/dp/B07C5PH17X/ref=sr_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=tcom+vb&qid=1591888855&sr=8-5
(The same design without the logo but im pretty sure its the same thing just with logo)

I think i got it for 60£ 2 of those, but later we stopped riding and he sold his, but either way we were mainly connecting to phone and talking through call or whatsapp.

But yeah i will try with headphones but i think the wires will be a little bit annoying so might just go with that one for 48£

Thumbs Up

So if you're determined to go the earphone route, you could probably use self-adhesive velcro to position it in front of your mouth, but could be fiddly putting earphones in and then positioning the mic. Other thing to consider with a hard-wired approach is if it rains, unless you engineer a "U" bend in the cable before it enters your pocket, it'll probably be a good way to run dribbles of water directly into your phone.
