Hi folks,

Just bought a 125 and bought insurance and then I realised I haven't changed address on provisional yet as I just moved house! Went to get my provisional and think I've lost it. Searched everywhere!! Typical. DVLA is closed and I can't apply for a new one! I tried online but can't renew it as I don't hold a British passport!! So, I can't do a CBT because training school sites are being used and even if they were open I've no licence!!! Insurance company wants a copy of CBT cert and licence details within 7 days! I take it the insurance company won't let me ride until I can get CBT because of the pandemic??!! Can I cancel the insurance within 7 days without being penalised? I paid a £70 deposit!! Thanks for reading!!

See whether or not you can get your licence details online:

Then you might (but might not) find the CBT provider will take ID and online details you share with them. I doubt they will though.

If you haven't booked your CBT you are most unlikely to get one in 7 days, even if you do know your licence details (odd that they want your licence details. I don't think I've had an insurer ask).

If you haven't done your CBT then you MUSTN'T ride.

I should think your best bet assuming you need to replace your licence is to:

1) Cancel your insurance ASAP. If you took it out online or by phone I think you should be OK with the refund, but check.
2) Make sure your bike is not on the road and is not going to get stolen.
2a) SORN your bike to avoid being fined.
3) Replace your licence.
4) Book your CBT and take it.
5) Tax your bike.
6) Take out insurance.
7) Ride.

Something like that, anyway.

Thanks for reply. I can't check my licence details online as I need the licence number. I can't renew it online as I don't hold a British passport which they can use that pic for your new licence I think??!! That's the impression I get. I'll sorn it and keep it off the road!! I'll get a form from post office to get a new licence. Pain in arse this virus. Thanks again pal 👍

I dont have a passport either. Whenever I've lost my license I just applied for a duplicate one in the new address.
