How are people finding insurance pricing just now? Mine is up for renewal, and renewal quote was coming in quite a bit more than last years price. However in a five minute phone call the broker dropped the price down to well below half that figure, and in fact it's only just over half last years price.

I work for one of the comparison sites and from what I've heard a few people saying the prices are lower now. A lot of people have stopped the insurance on their cars during the lockdown since they cant use them, so I suppose insurers are trying to keep as many as they can.

I just did a quote on my car and it's about the same as last year though. Insurance companies are fuckers though and it's quite possible they just had you overpaying last year Laughing

Mine went up by about 10% so told Bennetts to do one this time round. How a bike worth 1 year less in £££s
yet same everything else as last year warrants an increase I'll never know. What's this £20 setting up fee all
about now??? You want £20 on top just to do your damned job and press "renew". You don't go to Mcdonalds and
have to pay a "used a griddle" surcharge when you go there and have lunch???? My trade van insurance just
came in at less than my bike on which I do maybe 500 miles a year. I have my proof of no claims and it's unlikely
that I'll get out on the bike this year anyway so I guess I'll just have to wait til 2021. This year is done for me.
It's already been a year since I got out on two wheels anyway, another year won't matter in the scheme of things.

Yeah, just did a quote and it’s dropped from 280 a year to 180, and that’s included getting legal and accident cover thrown in too. Rock on ...

Make sure you get legal expenses cover with your insurance.

I was stupid enough to not buy legal expenses cover with my insurance, last time around. Then, guess what, something happened and I needed it. Human error being what it is, I only realised a couple of weeks ago why I didn't buy it. It was because accident, gear and legal expenses cover already came with my breakdown policy (Start Rescue). I put myself through a lot of nonsense and wrangling with insurance companies, simply because I had been too clever and had forgotten that I already had legal expenses cover with my breakdown company. The insurance company's process took over, and I was flailing about trying to work out what to do, and my breakdown cover's policy details never even crossed my mind. Stupid, right? But it happened.

I've never had it. What difference did it make? I've had a few claims, one being mega priced and never had legal cover.

Legalized mafia criminals.

Last year it was £267 FC for the Harley (Bennets), though it did come with all the bells & whistles. This year the quote from Swinson (who didn't quote the previous year) was £138.

The Doodlebug, £425 (Bennets, with everything again), cheaper than Swinson (FC, no bells & whistles).

It's like throwing a dart at the sea and it not getting wet.

£61.75 3rd party for the year with Carole Nash.

Insurance Premium (Zenith) £62.53
Fee £20.00

Long story, but in summary, if you have an injury, lawyers can recover their fees through the courts, so will take on easy, straightforward nonfault cases. If you don't have a personal injury, you will not be able to recover your lawyer's fees through the courts. The lower the value of the damage, the less likely it is to be worth it to hire a lawyer on your own. In my case, damage was up to £1000. This means I had to take control and pursue the other party and their insurer for damages by myself.

In the course of doing this, the other party's insurer broke the law several times, thinking I'm just a little guy and couldn't do anything about it. They refused to comply with a subject access request, they blanked me for months refusing to discuss the case, they claimed they didn't have to talk to me as they'd been contacted by a claims handler company first, they told me I needed to get written confirmation from a claims handler that I was handling the case myself (meanwhile they wrote to that claims handler telling them they would only be talking to me as I had contacted them!), before trying to settle the case on a 50:50 fault basis despite my insistence that I would not accept any fault. They refused (and still refuse) to tell me why they believed I was at fault. In the course of all this mess I had to seek recourse and redress through the Financial Ombudsman. These are the tactics they employed, most likely out of arrogance. It's anyone's guess if I'll still have to take them to court, and get the Ombudsman to order them to amend the database (and ask them to be penalised for their conduct), and complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, and possibly go to the papers or whoever will listen.

All of the preceding might not have happened if I'd used my rescue policy's legal insurance cover from the outset.

I've not had an accident without injury, one of them was mega and I've definitely not had/nor will I add legal cover, if you don't get injured, I'm betting it could have been avoided Laughing

Interestingly I'm dealing with the car insurance and it looks like prices are higher. Maybe more people laid up bikes during the lockdown so bike insurers are hungry for business. Maybe claims are down from people not riding even though they have cover in place.

My car insurance was due last month and it's gone up for no apparent reason, despite searching around. Crying or Very sad

My mum has a little Skoda and lives out in the sticks. Apparently that commands north of £800 Shocked

Except if you consult with the Meerkats everyone's quoting around £500. Tesco is even quoting £450.

She's with Tesco at the moment!

Insurance on the Type R has dropped to under £500 for the year, and the Mille R is a similar price to last year. Could have got it cheaper than both renewals, but not by enough to go through the hassle of sending NCD etc.

I just dropped about a third off renewing the viffer. Took a phone call and sending them a screenshot of the price comparison results, but they (Bikesure) beat it, which saves fucking around with changing and getting proof of NCD etc.

If there's not much in it I don't bother changing insurer for the hassle value. Funnily enough my car insurer, esure, have been the cheapest since 2011 for me (albeit with a 2 year hiatus when I had a company car), but bike insurers have been far more sporadic so I've had to switch each time.

The Type R is with esure.

My original quote with the Mille last year was less, but when I went to take out the policy, they wouldn't honour the price as I hadn't got enough experience, despite having a full license for ten years, similar level of NCD, and bring insured previously on an FZR1000. Rolling Eyes
