Love my old Ibanez acoustic and always wanted an Ibanez electric and thinking of treating myself to new electric.

This looks like a cracking deal. Whats say you rockers?

I dunno what it is with Ibanez but there's something about either the finish or the materials they use that I don't like Thinking

But these days pretty much anything makes a good sound after feeding through half a dozen pedals Smile The brand is more a statement about the sort of music you're in to.

Have you ever played one? They have quite a distinctive feel imho. Fretboard feels thin (not just slim, like you could almost deform it by squeezing!) wide string spacing and big radius.

I went shopping a while back and tried a load of random stuff and by far and away the Satch guitar which I thought I was going to love - felt the worst. Ended up with a US Strat, it just felt 'right'.

I would never buy a guitar without trying it. But No Stairway, right.

Reminds me of this clip where a guy goes around a guitar show to see if he could get away with it Laughing

Going back to the OP; definitely try before you play (obviously harder at the moment!). Personally I'm not keen on Ibanez; can't put a finger on why though but who said such feelings had any logic. If I had to go for that sort of style (ish) I'd be looking at a PRS, but I prefer my Strat/LP depending on what I play (which is actually precious little on electric these days, much prefer acoustic).

It's a good moment in time to buy a new guitar sight unseen.
That being said I prefer to get my mitts on one before buying even if it's a relatively inexpensive guitar..the hassle in sending them back is a PITA.

My 2p is likely to be this; It'll play fine..the neck and finish of the frets will be good i.e no bows or sharp fret ends but the pickups and controls/switches will be lacking.
The paint will be thick on the body.
The tuners most likely will have low ratio machine heads.

Non of the above necessarily mean it's a bad instrument.

I thought someone could probably explain it more eloquently Thumbs Up

Yes, last time I went down to Guitar Guitar I had a good go on the models - certain a bit of an eye opener what feels nice vs. what looks good. IIRC correctly the old classic Gibson SG felt the best overall but I am partial to Fender necks. I ended up with a Telecaster in the end.

Personally, nah.

I've used Ibanez for the past...12 years I'd say, the non budget ones are fantastic, the Gio range is REAL budget and whilst can be OK, typically the pickups are trash, the finish on the necks aren't great and the frets leave a lot to be desired. I recorded our first album on one when my Schecter broke, it sucked.

They are thin necks, really thin.

But to quote HT;

What are you going to try and play, or what style. it doesn't matter too much, but for an all rounder whilst being budget but not too budget is the Ibanez ART120, thats a cracking guitar.

S series I never felt were great, similar to UnknownStuntman, I bought an S750DXQM, I thought it would be superb, it just didn't feel like I could play it, more rounded profile neck, zero trem, it was a really nice bit of kit, but just didn't feel it.

Tried the RG421, that is also a real nice guitar.

I wouldn't limit myself to Ibanez now though, it was the weakest model I had when gigging (when the Schecter wasn't fucked...) and I tend to find my Burny or LTD were trekking along well, and still are 15 years later. Laughing
