With the civil war in America looming* I thought it might be an amusing to consider which bike you'd pick to escape the collapse of society.

Obviously everyone would just pick an ADV or dual-sport but you have to pick a bike that's sitting in your garage/driveway/outside right now. You'll just be taking what you can carry and siphoning petrol from abandoned cars on the way.

To start you off...

Well I'm pretty much fucked! Yes, the DT seems ideal for the task but while petrol might be pretty easy to steal I'll have to go looting Halfords or B&Q for 2-stroke oil Sad

Then there's the Rebel, oh dear. Reliable but I don't fancy its off-road potential Shocked

*wishful thinking on the part of those hoping to avoid Trump reelection

Seeing as there is not a week that passes without some misfortune befalling my Sprint, I’ll be taking my single-speed push bike and sweating my way through the fall of man.

Thanks but no thanks, I'll just do a bit of Mad Max styling to my Tundra.
I can sleep in it, mount big guns on it and run over any pesky two wheelers making a nuisance of themselves, what more could a chap ask for? Laughing

Edit: Aircon is also mighty handy round here.

A suzuki TC90. Saw one on youtube recently.

Not sure if they did them here. A 90cc 2-stroke dirtbike from the 70's with points ignition and... Get this... A 2-ratio gearbox which effectively gives it a crawler-gear for riding up cliffs and stuff.

So runs on fresh air, EMP proof and will go almost literally anywhyere it's possible to ride a motorbike -not quickly, but noone will be going anywhere quickly after the apocalypse-. Also weighs less than me.

Only downside is lack of carrying capacity. I'd maybe add my monowheel trailer.

Enfield. Thrashed everywhere it gets 70+MPG, ridden sensibly I've managed upper 80's.

Very simple to work on, cables and the like can be changed without proper tools.

I've managed to get it through any terrain I've tried.

In comparison the GSXR is a delicate little flower that drinks fuel and the ZZR while scoring on comfort and range can't cover crap terrain.

Where you going to flee too though?

Out of the bikes I own?

The Honley RX3 Chinese pos would have to be my choice.
Adventure styled, so ground clearance is slightly higher (just).
It got panniers and a topbox.
It’s not to thirsty on the go-juice.

Yay! I have an apocalypse bike in my garage and I didn’t even know it Thumbs Up Laughing

Dah.. we used to make pre-mix from agri-castrol for Bantams back in the day so finding 2T oil would be the last of my worries.
I also heard a tale that Joey Dunlop was once stranded on the TT circuit out of fuel, begged some petrol and mixed it with his own fork oil to get back to the pits.

Talking of Bantams and strange oil/petrol mixes.
We used to do the same on our old Bantam ‘field bikes’.
Almost any oil we could get our hands on was mixed with petrol to keep us running over the fields.

I’m certain the bikes were fooked by the time we finished with them, but they still ran Shocked

Away from the cities and off to some farm somewhere. That always works in the films Smile

When the Great Bog Roll Riots of 2020 started I wondered whether I'd need to shoot down to Cornwall. Partly to protect my mum from roving hungry looters with dirty bums and partly because she has half an acre of veggies planted and would later need help eating harvesting them.

I would head for the North West part of Scottish coast and as long as i remembered to take my light fishing tackle would be able to survive reasonably easily Laughing

This. In the UK, I'd bug out on foot. Much easier to remain concealed when you need to.

I wonder how many others would have that same thought? Better to just be constantly on the move.

Not many would stick it out though, too cold for most having to live rough especially in winter, i don't feel the cold and have often been walking around in -5/6 in just jeans and t-shirt for an hour or two Thumbs Up

Quite interested to see the final product, maybe there is finally a use for a GS500.

Apparently, iron oxide powder is used to polish gem stones.

If you bug out agreed, though I think I'd rather fortify my home and mouse hole all the walls and ceilings. 2/3rds of my street are serving or vets, seems silly to do a runner when I live on what would become a murder mile for anyone unknown.

You and half the UK heading there would be the problem. Still the dude that takes a gun will be happy to loot your fishing rod Laughing

Actually, if I wanted to survive (questionable in such a scenario), I'd probably try to ally myself with a military unit/group that was well armed and led.

I'd throw a few spanners at the blue R1 in my garage et voila!, the two-wheeled equivalent of The Last of The V8 Interceptors.

I’d survive no problem Thumbs Up
I’d eat my cat & the missus, oh boy! I be so fat! Laughing
If I’m hungry enough, I’d eat my own feet whilst they’re still attached to my legs Shocked .

I might have trouble changing gear on my bike after that Eh? Thinking .

Regarding useful neighbours, me and the wife had an idle conversation considering who's doors to knock on When The End Comes. We drew up a shortlist of ppl who weren't complete twats. It was a very short list.

People who fish are generally useful, in my experience, not just for catching of the food but they tend to consider a knife as a tool rather than an accessory that comes free with weighing scales and baggies.
