Good Morning Everyone!

I have a question regarding V5 Documents. Right, my Granddad has 3 old V5 documents (I think they have 1981 on them!) for motorbikes that he used to own years ago. Unfortunately he doesn’t have the bikes anymore (I think they got scrapped) but he would like to transfer the number plates from them to other vehicles.
Is this possible? If so, do you know how he could go about it?

Thanks Guys!

Hi

Don't think it is possible as the vehicle they are coming from needs to have been MOTed within the past few months (think 6 months).

All the best

Keith

It needs a valid MOT and be road worthy - they do check. I've only had to take one vehicle for a DVLA inspection and that was because it was once listed with insurance damage.

I am of the understanding that once the vehicle is scrapped you cannot recover the number plate. You have to re-register the vichicle. My old man had some big problems with this trying to sort a beetle for my mums 50ith with the registration plate of her first car (a beetle also).
He didnt have the log book tho, but from what he said from speaking to the DVLA it wouldnt matter.

Worth looking into tho as you have the log books.

If it was scrapped privately and does not exisist on "scrap files" ie the equivilent of SORN these days, you might be able to use it.
