Came across this junction last night on my ride; I've done this the other way a few times, but this was the first time turning into it though. Not helped by some cars faffing around, but I found it tricky and was really feeling the weight of my Crossrunner on it. 1st gear, feathering rear brake, looking where I was going etc.. Is this just showing an incompetence, or are junctions like this always tricky? I probably wouldn't think twice about it on a bicycle or in a car which makes me think the former. Quite a blind bend approaching with cars racing so it encourages to dip into the junction with a bit more haste than ideal and I guess if I had good visibility ahead I might have hugged the left edge of the road a bit more before committing.
Aerial view and streeview below.

Agreed. Does look a bit awkward. Easy enough if there's no other traffic about, but if it's busy when you get to it...puts a different perspective on things. ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017

I'm a wuss in the countryside. I'd go into the pub carpark and approach it from the other direction ____________________ Not nearly as interesting in real life. |

Been past there, don't think I've ever done that right turn going that way. There's a few junctions like that on other roads not that far away.
It seems you've got good visibility to look right over the wall on approach, so if there's no cars coming I'd be taking a significant chunk off the corner by cutting into the oncoming lane. This wouldn't be knee down action, but head up observing the junction in advance, depending on the bike probably 1st or 2nd gear.
If you come to a stop and traffic is blocking all lanes, then you'll have to give it enough speed to maintain balance, and look over your right shoulder and aim your vision away from the wall, probably about 2/3 away just near the centreline.
There's no shame in wobbling, there's a lot of bad roads, off camber and tight, gravel, wet with moss and leaves. I've paddled round some of these, it's when you're doing slow speed tight manoeuvres that it is hardest. Best time was almost getting stuck against a kerb when on a steep hill, after doing a u turn. ____________________

This is our local Really Awful Junction:

A left turn at the T junction on to the downhill hairpin features on the advanced riding test routes... I don't think many get it 100% correct without at least practicing it first ____________________ KC100->CB100N->CB250RS--------->DL650AL2->R1200RS->R1250RS |

You're being a little bit useless ...which is to be expected if it's a junction you use infrequently.
That photo...one that dips to the right with an off-camber that wants to take you to the gutter isn't something you attack is it.
One of those where I'd set off from left of my lane with almost a full lock to begin with. Giving me a better view at the oncoming and maybe a view up the road I was heading onto.
It reminds me of the junction off the Cat n Fiddle near the old tea rooms.
I'd gone a little bit too far before initiating the turn which left me running along the kerb for a few feet. I was twitching but the pillion was unaware.
[edit] Yes..the tea rooms. Where I had arranged to rendezvous with 6 other motorcyclists and then they'd follow me to North Wales (bikers holiday thingy...good fun etc etc). I turned up a bit late...entered the sloped carpark..came to a stop and thought I'd put the sidestand down.
Thankfully Big Norm and little Dave lifted the bike off my leg. ____________________ Diabolical homemade music Bandcamp and Soundcloud

Fine if you're the only vehicle there, but as has been mentioned, pulling over to the far left if you have some dipshit Sunday driver up your arse is only going to encourage the dipshitness. ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017

That's to be expected really. Dipsticks do what they do, it's my job to expect someone pulling out or overtaking as I'm turning. Whether I'm sat next to the white line or over to the left for a better view.
Make intentions clear i.e slow down and indicate with plenty of time.
Physically look behind you whilst stopped. etc etc
Guess if you have prior knowledge of the junction it's possible to let people pass before getting there....but that ain't happening is it.
Yeah it's a typical naughty little junction...the country is littered with them and there's often a compromise when negotiating them...or go into that carpark and turn around...and [facetious mode] hope you don't get knocked off by a drunk. ____________________ Diabolical homemade music Bandcamp and Soundcloud

You could always do the old 'slowing' hand signal beforehand too, remember those?
Otoh, dipshit would probably think, "look at this idiot, thinks he's a bird, I'm getting past him" ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017
