hi my fz1 is running too hot have tried they obvious new coolant , new thermostat, have checked the temperature gauge on clock it seem to be reading the same as the bike has have checked it with a metre, water pump seems to be working OK as have looked in the top of the rad and can see water pumping into the radiator, the only thing I can see which is still wrong is some of the thins on the rad are blocked about 10 to 15 % of the rad , when riding it at about 70 mph its reading 85 on gauge , has any got any ideas thanks fields125

As noted in various BCF posts, aesthetics are a major influence in the design and engineering of motorcycle radiators. There is not much reserve capacity designed into the cooling system. 10 to 15% blockage of your radiator fins means the ability of the cooling system to shed heat is compromised by at least 10 to 15%. If the fins are blocked by debris, clean it up. If they are bent over, you can straighten them out with a small pocket screwdriver. Specialty tools are available for that purpose as well. Best to do all you can to maximize air flow through your radiator.

You can try an phaph for a while straightening the fine. The tool is a radiator comb. And they come in various patterns for differing fin gaps. Probably not worth the expense as a one-off purchase. And they are of limited effect as most common cause of radiator problems is blockage due to detritus internally or.more likely externally.
Usually a mix of road tar, road grit gravel/sand, flies and other airborne shit.

Cleaning requires the radiator to be removed and soaked in aggressive cleaners. You can make it a little better using a hose and cleaners you find under your sink. But household cleaners are dumbed down for the benefit of retards.
Commercial compounds are more efficient but then expensive coz you're unlikely to need 25l of the stuff very often.

FZ1 is fairly common so at a wild guess I'd hope there are a number of radiator specialist that can supply a new rad assy or able to use your fvcked rad top and bottom tanks with a new core.

85°Centipede is not too hot.
That's about the lower end of the normal range.
Up to 98° will still not be too hot.
Engines are not considered as Too Hot (overheating) until they get up to and above 100°C.
Pressurised, to prevent steam bubbles forming (that cause 'hot-spots' where steam gas displaces coolant.)

Look for a new rad or core. Not too expensive when the phaphery of other remedies are considered.

85 degrees is fine. ICE engines run better the hotter they are (to a point). Unless you’re running at over 95 when on the move (or the fans not able to drop it down to under 115 when slow moving) I wouldn’t stress it.
