I feel sure we/ve had similar discusions before but anyway

Some folk are spanner monkeys some aint and that's fine
but asking and getting forum advice can often be a long winded frustrating process
where vague info gets vague guesses
Even the best info can only get a best guess cos that's remote diagnosis for you.

A simple template where the applicant offers stuff like
Make, Model, Year, Mileage, History, Mods done etc
plus relevant pics and vids if possible would get a much better and accurate response
than "mi bike don go, pls hlp"

The whole point of forums and the like is to have a chat ask questions and the like, even if they have been asked before and the answers are all over the place. No one goes to a pub or goes to meet friends, asks a question and then is given a pamphlet on all the answers and topics previously discussed and not to be spoken about again.

If you don't like it go sit in the corner and play with your piss flaps until they go puffy.

already done that - the swelling is going down, but slowly

i think the idea of people stating basic details like make, model, mileage and general condition when mentioning symptoms etc. is not a big ask and, in addition, I tend to conclude that any person who believes it is must have been deprived of oxygen during their journey down the birth canal

Those who would willingly fill out a template are the ones who would have likely volunteered that information (or more) at the outset.

Those who it aims to help are too f*cking thick to even realise it exists, much less complete it in any meaningful way.

I vote for a meritocracy. Those who make the effort to include valuable information in their posts will receive the wisdom to acscend to greatness.

Those who do not will languish in the swamps of 'no replies'.

What Mr Slowside said,. This ^

I can’t be arsed to reply to the “my bike is broke, what is wrong” types.

I find it amusing when the said noobs get annoyed when the mighty BCF can’t help due to lack of information.

I'm a member of another forum (I'm not telling you lot which one, far too nerdy) which also has a section for specialist advice. There's a sticky at the top of the subforum stating that anyone wanting advice needs to post using the prescribed template, ie answering a bunch of pertinent questions.

As predicted by most here, the vast majority of newbies just post their questions without bothering to read the sticky or use the template. But, one of the regulars then replies saying 'Please read the sticky at the top'. And then the poster posts again, providing all the relevant info.

So it does work... Wink
