Morning all,

OK so I'm really liking the Cardo install on my helmet and all the convenience it brings . . . except, the speakers are adding bulk within the helmet which isn't compatible with the arms of my glasses! There's also a bit of an issue with wind noise / audibility at motorway speeds.

Can anyone recommend any in-ear type earphones (3.5mm jack) which actually provide good noise insulation too? I use 3M foam earplugs normally (32db reduction I think) so would ideally be looking for something with comparable levels (or better) sound insulation. I have used some ear-buds in the past (not for motorcycling) and while they were quite effective at insulating noise, they also had a tendency to fall out after a while, not a problem sat on a train listening to music, but an issue inside a bike helmet.

Cheers

Helmet speakers 'should' be specifically directional and produce a narrow 'beam' of sound. Or the noise you want to hear most should be focused in the centre of the projected sound. Like a narrow torch beam.
That beam should be focused at your ear drums.
Is you can adjust the aim of the speakers to perfect the sound then extraneous noise will be lost.

Plugging air gaps in the helmet where you ram your big head through cuts wind noise in half.
Helmet shape and visor mounting affects wind noise too.
It's an expensive project to find out which helmet is best for sound.

plugphones, 32dB attenuation, not quite as good as Max-Lite, but not too expensive.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

Thanks. The issue isn't so much with the volume of the speakers (that is an issue and as mentioned, I did discover just how focused the sound is), it was more the physical size of the speakers and the fact they are snug to my ears; not ideal when I've then got to get the arms of glasses past!

I'll investigate the plugphones - quick google suggests they're exactly what I'm after. Thumbs Up

I have some Guardian plus wired ones, and I wear them on the way home from work so I can take diversions through London using Google Maps. They work well. If you don't quite get them in right, they can be a bit uncomfortable but I've got a lot more used to it these days.

I bought the ones with the remote with the vein hope that I might be able to adjust the volume on the move, but On the M3 at 80mph? no chance. Also I don't want to expose the volume control doodad to rain, so I just end up keeping it inside my jacket.

I can adjust the volume through the Cardo (by voice command and it actually works too) so I don't need an inline control. Highly recommended actually, although not cheap (I got the Freecom 4+ for group rides, but they do a basic one to act as a bluetooth headset effectively). Their voice control is really effective and unlike Siri it's actually instant too.
