Bandit speedo broken but odometer works

As title, when out for a ride today, speedo stuck on 0. solid as a rock zero mph.

Odometer and trip are registering mileage correctly however. 1999 Bandit, I am confident that means the cable must be fine and clock is busted somehow (the cable must be driving both?)

Tied up today but will take the clock end off and see if the end turns when the wheel is spinning. Is it worth trying to take the clock apart?

So far quick search, can only find secondhand sets including the rev. counter etc. and not cheap.

Does it actually have a cable though, I'd still guess clock might be the issue but changing it would be best avoided as it suggests you crashed it to a buyer.
edit - 1999 so yeah but no but Laughing
A lot now just calculate it automagically

Yup has a cable, routed from back of clock down to front wheel, only took one off a Mobylette before to clean but looks like same deal, there should be an inner cable with square or flat end that spins in side, driven off the front wheel which must be how the odometer works as well.

And yes, damn I don't really want to replace the clock, is 1999 and only has less than 15,000 miles, I did about half of that in the year and half have owned it. Have paperwork trail etc. but going to look well dodgy if I replace the clock.

TBH, I didn't really miss the speedo, I more or less know the gear and revs. for lower speed limits, but going to get points on licence at somepoint without it and guess it is goning to be needed for next MOT.

I have looked as well, and it seems like speed is not an MOT thing.

As MOT is not until next Jan anyway I have a phone mount, I think I will just use phone app for speedo when i need it and to keep me out of trouble for now, the odometer and trip meter seem to fine, and more important as I don't have a fuel gauge.

Replacing/fixing the clock is going to be a faff, pity it wasn't just the cable that went.

cable driven clocks are pretty simple inside. It's probably just stuck and needs a bit of a service. Might have got damp in there and picked up a bit of rust on the pivot etc.

I'd have the clocks apart.

I think the Bandit ones have a swaged rim which is a c u next tuesday to remove neatly. I'd just stick another clock on it, it's not like they are rare.

They do and it was....

Posting conclusion in case someone finds this. The speedo clock is easy to remove from an early Bandit and extract from the pod but a sod to take apart, basically this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2gAbn7IY8LI. Not a bandit one but the same in principle.

When I noticed the problem it was bright sunny day, the next time I looked when it was a bit damp I found this:
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EfmtIerWAAEWxrL?format=jpg&name=large decided to take apart for curiosity/instruction and incase I have have a rarer one to fix at some time.

Didn't do the neatest of jobs and took me over an hour but fixed it, some critter has spun something (starting a cocoon?) that was stronger than spider web and trapped the needle. All sorted once I took it apart and cleaned. Easy to test by re-attaching the mechanical cable to the speedo and attaching a drill to the other wheel end to spin it.
