Aluminium welding?

Just putting a thought out there?

So the engine in project ‘Scrapheap Hyosung’ might need replacing.

The rear engine mount is cracked.
Would aluminium welding the crack be safe on such a vital/stressed part of the bike?

If it's a stressed member in an assembly then welding repairs need some fairly critical thought, planning and specific proceedure/s. Those factors may make repair un-economical.
If not a load bearing frame component then welding failure has less life threatening consequences.
I'd pass. (Not a welding pun.)

The other part it was attached to when it was all rapidly deccelarated by a big wall?

Should be straightforward. When you say "stressed", is the engine a stressed componet, i.e. forming part of the frame, or does the rear mount just secure the engine into the frame? I agree with MCN in that it does look like crash damage. The pictures are not very good, which is not a plus point. A pity you missed the one sold in June! What's the matter with your current engine?.

That engine looks like shit, you can get most of a bike for less. Question what other hidden damage it has, I would not bother.

Aluminium is easy to weld, the problem is the Heat Affected Zone, causes brittleness, and would ideally undergo heat treatment post welding. For unstressed parts it would be no problem. I would say that crack can be welded, with hobby grade mig kit to a suitable standard if the HAZ is minimised, copper pipe with water pumped through and some heatsinking.

Not only does the rocker box photo make you think that the bike has been out in the rain for 5 years, the overall blurryness of all the pictures is terrible. If I was selling something on Ebay I would re do them after wiping the camera lens clean. Hiding something?

The question is- why are you focusing on the Hyosung, and not your 2t's? I'd even help you if you were anywhere near xD
