Do you take precautions, or do you live your life like you still have a spleen? |
I'm supposed to have a pneumococcal jab every 5 years I really ought to get flu jabs too And I'm supposed to take antibiotics every day since turning 50
But feck it, I'm isolated anyway.

Is the pneumococcal jab different for people with their spleen removed? I'm curious because I had that about 5 years ago and was told it's once for life.
But as for the flu jab, silly man Go get one - I had mine last week |

Dunno, they told me every 5 years, and I've had it a couple of times since 1991. Can't remember when my last one was, but it was definitely over 5 years ago.
Edited to add: I don't know why you had a pneumococcal jab. As far as I'm aware, it isn't something that everybody has.
Last I heard, the functions of the spleen were not fully understood, but one thing that seems to be accepted is that it plays a vital role in the immune system, and especially where fighting pneumonia is concerned. So yes, if you have your spleen removed, things are different than for those who still have the fully functioning organ. ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017

This popped up on my news feed.....
Coronavirus: Police get access to NHS Test and Trace self-isolation data
Now correct me if I'm wrong, but I understood no personal data was collected and it wasm't possible to identify people from the app. Obviously this isn't so.
That's the death knell for it then. Anyone working is going to delete it immediately in case they have to self isolate and lose their income.
How to shoot yourselves in the foot me thinks.

So, if the voluntary approach does not seem to work, what else is there to do?
In the begining of all this, all the Czech citizens who were returning back home from holiday in Italy, Spain and some other destinations had mandatory 14 days quarantine, they were supposed to tell their GP and then stay at home. The credit card companies then released anonymised data about the usage of the credit cards of those people. A rather alarming percentage of these people in quarantine made several pruchases in those 14 days with their credit cards all over their home towns, including paying for leasure activites, such as cinema tickes, pools, bars etc. Many people wouldn't even visit their GP after returning from abroad, even though they had all the symptoms. They just went to work.
Once again it's those few irresponsible ones that will define the new standard for the whole society.
Which reminds me, my boss sent everyone at work a memo last week, that he demands (his words) every employee to install the covid app on their phones and use it. I don't know how this app works yet, but as it seems it's the user who puts the data in, so what's the point? ____________________ '87 Honda XBR 500, '96 Kawasaki ZX7R P1, '90 Honda CB-1, '88 Kawasaki GPz550, MZ 150 ETZ

I don't know anyone self-employed, myself included, who ever got the app - for this very reason... ____________________ Now - Speed Triple, old ratty GS550, GSXR750M

It looks to me like a lot of flu deaths and cases are being mixed in with covid, this is rather damning.
Note the scale is different it's even worse/better than it looks.
2019 was below average too if anything.

Conversely, I've instructed (about a month ago) that the app is not to be added to the app store where I work - our work phones can only install apps from our store. |
Today, I asked my colleagues if they've installed the app already. They all told me the work phones run Android 5 and that the app needs at least Android 6, so it's new work phones time, I guess. ____________________ '87 Honda XBR 500, '96 Kawasaki ZX7R P1, '90 Honda CB-1, '88 Kawasaki GPz550, MZ 150 ETZ

I'm not anti-vaccine, or scared of it or anything like that.
