Hi,

I’m trying to balance my carbs on my Yamaha fazer 600 2003 model. I’ve managed to get 1,3,4 to be roughly within range of each other, however no matter what I do I cannot seem to adjust number 2. It appears static at around number 5 but will rise with increase of revs.

Any and all advice is welcome.

That looks more like the gauge needle needs damping. Usually theres a valve on each gauge that you can adjust to do it.

Hi

Thanks for your reply, unfortunately number 2 gauge is as fine tuned as it will go without serious fluctuations. I can adjust number 1 up and down but 2 will remain at around number 5 on the gauge?

Any suggestion?

Cheers

"A vacuum gauge needle that vibrates rapidly at idle and then seems to smooth out with rpm can indicate bad valve guides or a bad cam lobe"

This guy is suggesting some problem with the valves
on number 2

I'd go for the simpler explanation of the damping valve on the gauge. It's easy to prove it, just switch the gauge feed over from another cylinder that was showing relatively stable.

When adjusting the damping valves you should be aiming for a tiny amount of flutter rather than no flutter at all.

Easy to check, swap the vac gauge hoses on 1 and 2. If no2 gauge still shakes it just needs the damping screw adjusted. If no1 now shakes (because it's now connected to no2 carb) then it bears investigation.

Start by balancing 1 with 2. Then balance 3 with 4. Then balance the 1-2 pair with the 3-4 pair using the centre adjuster.

First though, sort the damping on that no2 gauge or you'll wreck it. The little brass screw adjusters just below the dials are there to allow for damping adjustment.

So I get some good karma for the cock and ball torture gag and not this?

:actually that is quite funny.

Anyway I can see worn guides potentially causing this because the valve could be wobbling from side to side but not the cam.
