Honda CB250N crankcase split

I have noisy fifth gear and have the engine out for a top end rebuild.
It looks like the crankcase can be split by removing the side covers and the pump chain. Do I have to remove clutch and gear selector and all the other associated stuff too?

Sounds like you need a workshop manual.

I wouldn't undertake a job like that without one.

The answer to your question is almost certainly yes for most of it.

If you are going to want to mess with gears, the clutch will probably need to come off the end of the shaft anyway and that is a much easier job with the engine in the frame and the chain still on so you can lock the transmission up. Loosen the final drive sprocket while you're at it.

The Haynes manual assumes you are going to strip it totally.
One final point. The oil pump chain seems to have quite a lot of play - is that normal?

Oh dear, the centre cylinder head bolts can be a nightmare, but luckily you can leave the head etc alone. So engine in, clutch cover off, clutch drum slot nut off and gear selector shaft out.flywheel cover off and flywheel off, stator off and engine out.sump off for gearbox access.flywheel extractor and clutch Basket peg spanner needed.how is cam chain and balance chain system?? You need to do lots of research before you go into this engine else real expense.
