Unhappy 400

Hello everyone.

1- I’ve just bought a GSXR 400 1995 as a non runner. I’ve put every new seal in the carb.

2- It’s got an XL starter motor bracketed on there which turns the motor over very fast - is that okay?

3- I put New CR9E plugs in Which I now see are not correct- might that cause the next issue-

4- I had good sparks from the plugs until I put the new plugs in and now no spark.

5- I’ve got another coil on the way via the net as it was cheap but for today, what should I do next? Check the coil pickup maybe? I have a multimeter but do not know how to do this test so any advice will be very much appreciated 👍

From what you state there is 1 carb, more than 1 spark plug and 1 coil??

I would get the sparks back and squirt easy start spray into the the air intake with the filter removed.

When I say ‘carb’ I’m referring to the bank of four. Lol yes there are four spark plugs... today no spark on any.

Yes there are two coils but as I’ve bought the bike as a non runner there’s no way to tell if the coils are the right way around or the wires are correct (as the manual I’ve found online shows different coloured wires).

From good sparks to no sparks then i would be studying the safety cut out switches (wiring diagram) that could kill the sparks.
Is this similar to your wire colours (750 though) ?

Do you get a spark if you pull in the clutch lever while spinning it over on the starter?
