I bought those mirrors. Utter shite, optical characteristics of a manky goldfish bowl.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Honda-CX500-Step-Frame-Street-Fighter-Cafe-Racer-Custom-Build-1981-Mono-Shock/265006030115?hash=item3db3971d23:g:7LYAAOSw0YBf-CR9

£6,750. What on earth...

For that kind of money, I would want the option of removing mudguards and mirrors, not having to buy them to pass a MOT test (correct me on that point).

Bad wiring, terribly exposed battery box and reg-rec underneath the bike, typically poor throttle and brake cable routing, invisible (I assume) indicators, and is that headlight even legal? The rear brake pedal appears to be resting against the underside of the exhaust... Holes in the twist-grip end - really? Missing frame caps for the swingarm and frame cross-tubing. Non-branded "Ohlins" rear suspension... And please tell me how much Akrapovic there is, really.

The thing which really gets my goat is that the seller says: "... standard CX500's are becoming thin on the ground now and fetching big money, this one already done will save you £000's,

I'm no metallurgist, but common sense would suggest that the monoshock mounts are liable to shear catastrophically under load, owing to the upward force from that monoshock when under compression. It's bikes like this that put at risk the future of historic vehicle status for old bikes. It's an absolute shambles. I just hope whoever buys it doesn't end up paralysed.

Did someone lose a bet?!

BTW you only need the bit up to the first number in eBay links on a proper computer, for example:

Ha ha. I don't actually mind that too much, but the aluminium chequer plate rear shroud needs to go, and for an authentic experience the saddle should be mounted directly off the back of the swinging-arm, on a springy steel mounting bracket.

It's climbing! I'm sure there is some attempt to get a modified Maggot to 10 k...

I have no complaints: quality looks a step above the usual merde, apart from the usual impracticalities. Not sure it is worth the asking price, but maybe in terms of labour.

No MOT yet... Laughing

I'm just wondering on what level this constitutes a cafe racer ?

* The weedy 16 HP motor
* the stubby mudguard
* the illegal numberplate or, more probably
* the dashing red seat piping and highlights

https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/pFQAAOSwjTBfFBnS/s-l1600.jpg

If this work was completed by anyone over the age of 17 then they need to be imprisoned.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Honda-CD-200-Cafe-Racer/143920591650

PS I wonder how it 'runs and rides ok' without the chain running on the front sprocket..

At first glance it doesn't look too bad... in a darkened room after I'd mislaid my glasses!

The only question is whether (if it was <£500) there's enough of a bike to salvage Thinking Given it'll be officially "vintage" in a year or so it might have some value.

Bearing in mind it's meant to look something like this:

https://classic-motorbikes.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/1982-cd200.jpg

I'd be mentally pricing up seat, exhaust, rear mudguard, indicators, mirrors, probably re-spoking the wheels, etc.
