Anybody ever had any bike stolen from a Q Park Car Park? They are saying they dont know if any bikes have ever been stolen in one of their car parks, but I am starting to lose trust if they cant be honest about this. Why should I leave my bike with them if they cant just be open

Location (approx if you're fussy)? Someone local might be able to give you a heads up what ones offer better facilities than others, or their history.

Bike theft matters to you, but to whoever answered your query their probably non the wiser about how rife it can be at times; and if they've never owned a bike why would they be bothered? You'd probably have to go through police to get the CCTV if something happened anyhow, I imagine.

Take a ride to the location before the day you need to, if possible, and see how safe it looks / park your bike and test you can chain it up properly / enough; or find alternative location / transport if really suspect of the area.

If they have no liability or responsibility (which they probably don't and have discharged this through terms and conditions, probably on signs around the car park) then they genuinely may not track such incidents. Barring the police / victims requesting CCTV, it doesn't really affect them.

Also, while I get that it's potentially insightful to understand past history of a location, I'd be more concerned with the here and now, so what security measures are in place, places to lock the bike to, visibility, CCTV coverage (and is it working) etc. etc. as what it is now is possibly more relevant than what it was during past issues (if any).

How did you ask? maybe a FOI request would bring better a more accurate response?

Don't FOIs only apply to public bodies, e.g. Councils, govt departments etc.?

Well okay, find somewhere else to park your bike then.

I can completely understand why they wouldn't want to get into a discussion about how many bikes have been stolen from their car parks.

Organisations you can ask for information

You can request information from some public authorities, such as:

government departments, devolved administrations, other public bodies and committees
local councils
schools, colleges and universities
the NHS - including hospitals, GPs, dentists, pharmacists and opticians
publicly owned companies
publicly funded museums, galleries and theatres
the police and fire services
registered social landlords in Scotland

But this company is private so, no foi for them.
