Sometimes I think its important to realise that people aren't going to be as excited, or interested, in the same things you are; like the sale, for example.

Ste, how many clips for "broke down while riding it?"

All 125s are crappy. But that’s what makes a lot of them shitloads of fun.

So what’s replacing this bike?

Not yet, but I got a good price which will go towards a good replacement...

Something more suited to touring but still a fun weekend toy. Maybe an XJ6 F, or maybe a 1990s 650 Africa Twin/ XTZ750.

This of course highlights where insurance falls short; if a bike gets nicked, you (hopefully) can get the money back to buy something similar, but even if you get the same model, it won't be "your" bike with the memories associated with it.

Keep us posted on the new machine. It'll feel like a rocket compared with your 125. Thumbs Up

Well the same problem with the 125 system as well - I did a road trip with my ex on this bike and it was one of the best things ive ever done. If it had been a nicer bike I would have kept it for ever just because of the memories. But there isn't much point keeping a nasty 125.

I can foresee another problem there; further down the line, you get a new partner your new partner asks "why do you insist on keeping that grotty old 125?" . . . "because I had fond memories of my ex with it" . . .

Best said when pointing at the wet patch on the pillion seat.

Fond memories.

My current GF is also pissed I sold the bike. I tried explaining that 125s are crap and the next one will be better but "I liked that one"

Aye aye aye

The only 125 I ever owned I bought for my wife. She did her CBT on a scooter and despite lots of trying to get used to gears she just couldn't, so it went unused by her.....

Which was good for me as I had a ~18 mile commute through part country roads and part congested town centre and the little YBR was mighty for it. Absolutely loved hooning it about. Was a shame to sell it TBH.

To be sure, these are stout little motorbikes. Within their performance capabilities, they do pretty well. Gotta love the 300 mile range between fill ups.
