Honda CG125 12v CDI Stator & Flywheel Replacement

Hi guys

Long time lurker, first post.

I have a 1985 Honda CG125 C, with a 6v points system. I would like to convert this to a 12v CDI system for a number of reasons. I have found this forum incredibly helpful in figuring out how to do so and the parts that need replacing.

I understand that I need to replace the stator and flywheel, amongst other things. My issue is that I have been searching for the correct stator and flywheel but I've been unable to source parts that I am confident are correct. Does anyone know where I can source these parts, or whether I can source a compatible stator/flywheel assembly from another bike? Presumably a later CG would work, if I could find the assembly. I've also read on this forum that cheap copies of the CG125 made in Asia could be a good source for these parts. If someone could point me in the direction of these that would be great.

Alternatively, is a 12v CG125 stator likely to be compatible with a later CG125 CDI flywheel, and then compatible with my 1985 CG.

For anyone looking for help with this. I've taken a punt on some Lifan Mirage LF125J City X LF125GY parts which is a CG copy.

A number of reasons. Less maintenance, greater/cheaper availability of replacement parts, availability of smaller batteries.

Before ordering any parts I would be comparing part numbers for the crank and crankcases to see if the bits are likely to fit. No idea if they changes the crank or cases between generations of CG.

Also have a look at the rest of the electrical system. You'll pretty much need to replace the wiring loom. You might get away with new 12v bulbs in the lights, but you might need new lights.

In short, it's possible that to do this successfully using standard replacement parts, you may have to replace the engine, the wiring, and anything electrical on the bike.

It is highly unlikely that the finished product will be more reliable. You're getting rid of points as a service item - so that's 30 minutes a year saved on maintenance. You're bringing in a lashup of parts of dubious provenance.

The big reason to go 12v is electric start and a brighter headlamp.
