My '01 Bandit cuts out

Dear All,

I have a 2001 Suzuki Bandit 600S (fully faired) which purrs like a kitten. That is until it is a little bit damp or a little bit cold. Twice she has cut out on me under these conditions (she runs great on warm days). I lose all power and then she just cuts out. I leave her for around 10 mins switch my fuel tap onto prime and she fires up no problem and away we go. Don't worry, I have turned my fuel tap back to ON beforehand. We go for another few miles and the same thing happens.

I have had her to the garage twice for this. However the mechanic can't seem to replicate the problem, so he can't formulate an opinion. As a suck-it-and-see mentality I am changing my HT leads and plugs to try an eliminate that possible cause. Though I won't know until I get a damp day that it has or hasn't worked.

If changing the leads and plugs has no effect......snookered.

Has anyone had similar problems or can give me some advice on what they might think the problem might be.

Hi

If it is cold and damp then it sounds like carb icing (although I would think it is now too warm for it).

Possibly get some additive and give that a try. Your local VW dealer might be the best source (used in the old Beetle).

my bike gets the same symptoms as yours - however i was told they put wd40 on the plug, am yet to see if it works though - hope its just sometyhing like thast for you

Have you checked that the carb heaters are all working fine as this is a common issue with your bike and the symptoms do sound like that could be the problem, just a suggestion but its worth a look. Hope you get to the bottom of it soon. Wink
