Short rider query

Hi there,

As someone new to riding, and looking into buy their first motorbike how much would you/i realistically care about the size of the bike? For example i am 5 ft 3, 28" inseam, I'm looking at Sinnis motorbikes, particularly the RSX or the Scrambler, but with both we are looking at a 31inch+ seat height, should i look for something smaller, i originally was looking at cruisers for that reason but i don't like the look of a lot of the smaller ones really and i want to get practice on a 125cc before going any bigger.

So yeah just wanting opinions of people who have recently started riding on how their bike height helped/hindered their confidence.

Sounds very similar stats to me and the only bike I've had difficulty getting my feet on the ground on (i.e. could only get one foot down whilst hanging off the side of the seat) was a CR125 enduro bike that was taken to bcf bbq one year.

If you are reasonably confident and athletic it's still doable you can kind of slide to one side.
Also it's not all about height the seat width is less on some bikes which helps.
Getting on you can use a horse mounting style standing on peg, with the weight on they do sink down quite a bit.

A narrow seat is just as important as seat height. Hell, it may be more important, depending on your ability to move around on the bike. Go sit on one, and see, you may be pleasantly surprised. Just bear in mind for distances, a narrow, thin seat is not going to do you any favours.

I'm 3 inches taller but the legs are prob around the same size. I'm stumpy. As long as you can put one foot flat on the ground it tends to give you that extra confidence. I've ridden cruiser 125cc bikes which tend to be lower but heavier to get used to the riding then changed bikes.

The tallest bike I have owned is a Z800 which is the tallest of the Z series at just under 33 inches. It is also the heaviest of the series. While it was tall it was fine to ride. The only time you really notice it is when you stop on an adverse camber and put the left foot down.
