What is the best motorcycle gear you can get safety-wise these days?
As I need to get some new textile all weather gear and a new helmet.
Is D30 armour the best to have in jackets and trousers?

Do airbag vests like this have a good reputation / worth using?

Best safety gear is what's between your ears...

However, fortnine did a review on airbag jackets on his youtube channel recently.

Somewhere on here there is a link to a twat in a subaru losing it on a corner and going head on to a bike. The rider (I think) had inflatable gear and survived when he probably wouldn't normally.

I point this out as a real world example, which tend to make the best reviews!

Couldn't agree more so I will be getting some extra training too, but it's almost impossible to prevent all accidents so I want to cover all my bases.

AFAIK it's pretty well regarded. But I think it's main advantage is it's really comfortable to wear; under normal conditions it's very soft and pliable, but 'locks up' under impact to provide the necessary crash protection.

Agree totally. But training and riding ability should be a given, not an alternative to safety gear. And how many BCFers can claim they've never come off their bikes, for whatever reason? Go figure.

As did Missenden Flyer also - both of them rated the Helite vest. As it happens I wear one myself (according to the paramedics who loaded me into their ambulance in France a few years ago it saved me from serious injury; probably a busted neck. So I'm a fan).

I don't have a set budget, just depends on what is available and how good it is.
Eg if I can buy a textile jacket for £500 that is good and there is a jacket that is 1% safer that costs £1000 I am going to choose the £500 option.

Also found a localish bike shop that does 0% 12 months finance which will help alot:

But seeing as I'm about to spend a lot of money on a newish bike it would make sense to not skimp on the safety gear.

(aka eye-wateringly expensive)
eg 325 quid for a a pair of Belstaff ankle boots...

I really like my Richa jacket I got for like £150 or whatever it was. Comes with D30 elbow, shoulder and back armour. Had to contact the Richa HQ in Belgium on some things and they were really fast and easy to deal with. All in all Richa get a nod from me.

Scorpion had to send me replacement parts for my visor mechanism. They operate at a glacial pace so while it was my first Scorpion helmet and to be honest does a good job: it will be my last.

Rev'it do my gloves and honestly I fucking love them. Best money I have spent so far on gear went into their goretex gloves.

Got Alpinestars sektors for boots, they do a job. Nothing more and nothing less. Low cost so I am happy.

I'd take a look at Merlin, Tucano Urbano maybe or browse the M&P website..
