Hi was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions?

I fitted braided brake lines front and back to my cb750 a few weeks ago and all was well, untill i noticed that the brakes were binding.

So i stripped them down and cleaned all the road crap off the pistons, after i did that the back brakes have completely gone to sh*t!!!!!!

I've bled them through about 5 times now and there is no air in the system or leaks from anywhere, but i just can't get them to feel or work any better.

I have no idea what to do now, any ideas???

I never installed braided lines so I wouldn't really know how long it takes to put them. But I think a smart thing to do would be to put the stock lines and see if you have the same problem, then you would know if it's the new lines or something to do with the calipers or disk.

Make sure your banjo bolts are done up properly. pump the lever loads with the caliper off the bike and see if the pads move at all. if not you have air in there, if so then you just need to adjust your brake pedal and pump it till the pads are nearer the disc.

pinch the back brake disc and the run your fingers from outer edge to the centre and see if you can feel that their is some even wear in the disc if it isnt then this uneven wear is giving you pads less cantact space and throws the whole brake off and you will neeeda new disc.

If that's the problem you could skim the disc which is alot cheaper than a new one. Alternatively if the disc wear isn't too extreme you could angle grind the pads to fit the discs, did it to my front brakes and there much better.

The small pushrod with a hinge (looks like a bolt with nuts) attached to the rear brake pedal probably needs to be adjusted as that is what happened to mine not long ago. If the pushrod is not adjusted correctly then no amount of bleeding will work until this has been done.

Can you describe the "feel" in more detail? Do you get good feedback on the peddle? Does it get better if you pump the peddle? Can you lock the rear at all?

How much of a strip-down? Did you take the pistons out of the calipers?

Did you get any fluid on the pads?

The you can lock the back wheel but only at low speed at high speed its basically useless! the pedal travels so far that it hits the heat shield on the exhaust.

The extent of stripping down was to take the calliper off the bike, spray it with break cleaner to get all the road crap off the pistons and made sure they were moving freely, which they are!

I'm gonna go to the garage in about an hour and try a few of the ideas that have been posted and see what happens.
