what bikes don't you see often? which ones did you expect to see more of? When Yamaha launched it, I wondered how the xsr900 would sell. A few years later, I think I've seen maybe one. Another from the Yamaha range is the SCR950 - do they even exist?

Triumph Bobbers - there was quite a kerfuffle about that bike when launched. A few years later and I'm not that sure I've clocked more than two on the road.

Think I saw one of those BMW R18s in passing the other day. Not expecting to see many more, mind you.

Here's a strange one - the NC750S. The X is everywhere - so how come the S doesn't get a look in? I'd have thought it'd be the other way round. The S would surely handle better - it's lower. Everything else is the same. Maybe the longer travel of the X makes it comfier.

You'd think the S would be the new ubiquitous training bike as well. Uses no fuel, low enough for all riders, twin makes for easy servicing (if it actually needs any internal adjustment given how low tuned it is). Only slight downside is weight. Never see 'em though.

Where I live , it’s rare to see any new bikes at all, let alone a particular/specific model.

The prices of new bikes these days , I wonder why anybody would buy new?
The few new models I have actually seen around here all seem to be top of the range Beemers (gs1200’s) ie very expensive?

Well they kind of don't do they. They just lease them on PCP. GS guys especially seem to go down the "PCP, 3 year warranty, cane absolute fuck out of it, give it back after two years and 11 months" - repeat. Not sure how much this costs per year - 2k? 3K? There's a lot of guys seem to do that around here - they're the types that do ride a lot though.

Only see them here on sunny Sundays, for the amount they sell they actually seem "rare". I suspect the low mileage allowances on their fantasy adventure rental limit how much they come out. I see more of the big KTM and Triumphs being used in anger on the Plain.

Any kind of brand new sportsbikes seem rare, not just brand new but also even moderately new. The majority I see around seem to be, "Practical Sportsbikes Era".

I see new or newish Japanese midsized and larger bikes most often. Upright/naked most frequently, followed by sports or faired pseudo-sports. Something very conservative about all of those, completely standard and in drab colours. I think leased bikes might be very common around here. Around about now, I also see a fair few eccentrics on odd bikes enjoying the weather. Night riders on 4-cylinder (assumed-to-be) sports bikes as well (although they're heard rather than seen).

Yeah same here, I think. Way more likely to see a z1000sx than a zx10r or whatever. Ageing demographic innit.

Like recognises like, so I know an eccentric when I spot one. Smile

I have eccentric riding habits and eccentric choices in bikes. I also have a thing about social tourism and bikes. Being an eccentric is the best way to go, really.

Obviously one sees the insanity that is the Hayabusa all the time but I'm quite surprised how many Triumph Rocket 3's I see! Saw one casually parked up when I went to the seaside recently.

I look out for bikes I have/had but I tend to see more XSR900's than my XSR700 Thinking Rarely see the Rebel which I assume did fairly well considering they have the 1100 out now and 9 times out of 10 if I see a 125 faux-cruiser it's a Superlight Smile

Plenty of Rocket 3's round my way. As others have said, I'm yet to see a 650 RE in the flesh.

I think large bikes are dying out now. Sunday toys and summer cruisings aside I see very few in day to day or commuter mode, it's all sub 500cc.

Pretty sure for the A licence the requirement for the test is a bike with at least 595cc and 54bhp. Not sure if that means 54 bhp is acceptable as I think that's what the NC750 makes?

Thumbs Up
I’d struggle to identify the modern bikes. I still read the other magazines but I find I’m not much interested in new models.

Plenty of torque though. My mate has one as a courtesy bike at the moment. Zips along quite nicely actually, and is fun around town. He seems to be enjoying it, although I doubt he'd swap his vfr for one.
